Pregnancy / TTC after having Covid

CiciBakes90 · 10/01/2021 00:38

My husband and I have been trying to conceive for around a year now and are both in our early 30s.

Last month we both tested positive for coronavirus and had mild symptoms. Though mine got worse during my period (which arrived a day early).

I didn’t want to try again too quickly, so now my next period has arrived (4 days late and quite light for me). I’m normally a very regular 28/29days.

Has anyone got pregnant since having covid? Or could link me to any previous threads?

Not me but following with interest. I got long covid in March, started ttc in September when I finally felt strong enough. I’m worried it might have affected my fertility not least as cycles have gone from 24 to more like 22 days since I first got sick. But I’m also nearly 40 so it might equally be my age!

Glad you’re feeling better and good luck!

I'm not sure if I had covid as I caught something in late Jan/early Feb so there wasn't much awareness and information about it. But I had all the symptoms (viscous cough that disrupted sleep, high temperature, loss off taste, no energy). I didn't feel back to myself until around 6 weeks. It felt like no other feeling I've ever had and certainly not regular flu which I had before.

I'm now almost 3 months pregnant. I'd made a full recovery by thrend of March. With the ongoing saga that is CV19, me and DH decided not to put outlives on hold and successfully conceived in autumn.

Following as I rested positive on 2nd Nov and currently isolating as my OH tested positive on Monday. As a care worker he had his vaccine on 29th Dec and was told for us to use a condom for 3 months after his 2nd jab as it's not been tested on unborn embryos or fertility. This may have changed since the. So I'm going to ask him to double check on his appointment next time. X

@FTMF30 congratulations!! So wonderful to hear!

That does sound very much like you had covid! Did the doctor / midwife say anything when you said you thought you had covid previously?

I read an article that stated nearly every woman asked said their period did change after covid, for at least a couple of cycles. Did yours?

@Aozora13 its so frustrating not knowing isn’t it!

I wish they would start doing studies or recording information on this! I don’t understand why a viral infection would affect a cycle ... other than stress. Which I think is an easy blame for everything Confused

CiciBakes90 · 10/01/2021 11:31

@dechie I know I wasn’t planning on getting the jab when TTC, but I didn’t realise it was the man too.

So did your OT contract covid before he got his jab?

dechie · 10/01/2021 11:50

In his care home they test weekly (twice weekly from the week just gone) and he was negative the Monday before. He had the Jab on he Tuesday and was positive, the next Monday.
We've been very careful and stuck to the rules since the beginning due to his job so we've haven't really been out and only socialised with people we knew were also being sensible to reduce the risk. He didn't even get it when we isolated when I had it. (He had to have a negative test before he was even allowed back into his care home).
4 others at his work have also tested positive so it could have just been crap timing.
The thing is, the jab wouldn't have been in long enough to do anything in that time anyway. He was feeling exhausted the Friday after the jab but I put it down to the vaccine as the side effects can be fatigue and tiredness.

I think they're worried because they don't know whether the dose can be carried through the sperm and then damage us or the embryo.
To be fair, this will give my body time to get used to coming off the pill. I stopped taking it on 6th Dec and still no AF! 😩 X

Thank you!

I actually haven't mentioned it to my midwife. It didn't call to mind at the time I spoke to her. But you've made me think I should definitely give it a mention, so will do at my next appointment.

It did affect my cycle. I was 11 days late after falling ill. But my cycle was normal following that.

CiciBakes90 · 10/01/2021 12:39

@dechie oh what rotten luck for him! Hope he feels better quickly!

I was just over a week late to get my first period after I stopped the pill. And a few months to return to a regular cycle.

I took a pregnancy test the first time (we weren’t TTC at that point) and my period arrived an hour later. Its happened to me a couple of times like that. Similar to when you nip to the loo at a restaurant and your food has always arrived when you get back!

@FTMF30 oh sorry, I didn’t mean to cause worry! Tbh they ask about covid with everything, so I think if it was a concern they would have asked during your first appointment.

Good to know about your cycle that is returned to normal so quickly!

He's currently under a blanket playing PS4 being cheeky so I think he's ok 🤣
I took a test but came back negative so I guess it's just the waiting game. I was stressed with work before Christmas so could be stress too! Hopefully she'll be here to annoy soon! 🤣

ohsheglows · 10/01/2021 12:56

@CiciBakes90 I haven't got pregnant yet but I got Covid in March last year and it messed up my cycles too! So not sure if it was Covid or just stress of being ill. They've just about got back to regular 29 days for me. However I'm not sure my inability to conceive is due to Covid as I do have low AMH which may be the problem.

CiciBakes90 · 10/01/2021 14:49

@ohsheglows had you tried for long before having covid?

It really worries me how many women seem to have their periods effected by Covid!

I have a phonecall app with my GP next week as we have hit a year TTC. I’m hoping she might have some info about Covid and fertility too, but I don’t have high hopes since it is all so new!

No worries! I'm just thinking it's something worth mentioning.

Aozora13 · 11/01/2021 16:58

Good luck with your GP @CiciBakes90. The long covid group I was part of did a few polls asking women about their cycles. I thought it was interesting that lots of people said they’d experienced changes but they were quite different e.g. some got shorter, some got longer, some stopped altogether. It was quite common for symptoms to be worse around AF and still struggle with fatigue for a couple of days before and the first day of my period. Would be great if someone could do a proper study but I guess as it’s so new it’ll take a while for the impact on fertility to be shown.

Hi guys, I've just joined!
I'm 24 years old and I had my first pregnancy end at 12 weeks miscarriage on 30th September 2020, and now I just birthed another miscarriage at 12 weeks again!

It's my second miscarriage in a row, and I'm a healthy 24 year old with no underlying medical conditions nor a history of health conditions.

Has anyone heard similar stories of anyone in their 20s or have any tips other than to see a specialist? X

CiciBakes90 · 02/03/2021 14:54

I realised I never sent an update on my doctors appointment!

The doctor really didn't have any information on Covid and TTC. I got my bloods taken and they came back normal. I'm just waiting on getting a follow up chat so I know in more detail what happens next.

Aozora13 · 02/03/2021 16:53

@CiciBakes90 thank you for the update! How are you feeling? Hope fully recovered.

I can update too - I’m currently 9 weeks pregnant! Must have got my BFP shortly after posting on this thread!

CiciBakes90 · 02/03/2021 19:28

@Aozora13 Congratulations!! That is wonderful news 💖

And thank you, yes I feel fine health wise. Just the unknown isn’t it!

I had covid at Christmas and think it messed up my cycles a bit. My af was 4 days late after and I had spotting first for 4 days also. Also usually from ov to af my boobs are so hard and sore but now I’ve had none of that and not much cm either. I’m currently 5dpo in cycle 3 of ttc so fingers crossed for this month!

CiciBakes90 · 14/12/2021 10:04

Not sure if anyone is still watching this chat. But an update that I am now 20 weeks pregnant :)

Scans have all gone well, I had my second jab at 4 weeks pregnant. Getting my booster next week

@CiciBakes90 - this is such great news, congratulations! DH and I have recently caught covid and are really worried about how it might affect my periods over the next few months (I usually spot for a few days before my periods already) and he has low sperm count x

poppet131 · 14/12/2021 13:09

@CiciBakes90 - how long did it take for your periods to return to normal after catching covid? X

CiciBakes90 · 14/12/2021 13:32

@poppet131 - I think it was back to normal on the 2nd or 3rd period after having covid. But I have always had a very regular period.

Best of luck in your journey! If it helps at all, we were trying for 18 months and out the blue it just worked. The only difference I could say was my DH (or me and DH) kept a more regular schedule of every 2 days (if you know what I mean haha...) for a few months pre-conception and his sperm morphology increased for the better by a few %
