PUL nightmare

Hey there

I need support!

Was told yesterday I have a PUL (pregnant of unknown location) after a week of very mild stomach and lower back pain, finally got an appointment at the Early Preg Clinic.
They found a gestational sac but apparently nothing within it. They took bloods, gave me a leaflet and told me they would ring with results. Rang later in the afternoon to say they want me back 48 hrs to repeat to check HcG levels.

Found out pregnant on 20th dec (digital test 1/2weeks). In a way Im hoping that maybe my dates are wrong or something and that it was just too small to view? But I think ive resigned myself to the fact that shortly Ill miscarry with or without intervention.

My partner is still thinking they might be wrong and that hes sure if they scan in a week or two time things might change. Hes terrified theyve got it wrong somehow and that if they medically intervening may stop a viable (albeit early) pregnancy.

I have had a previous pregnancy 10 years ago with similar issue (cramping but spotting as well) and at that point we saw something on the ultrasound. So im just in limbo.

Any ladies have similar experience, and how did you come through it.

Thanks

Oh you poor thing, it is a horrendous experience. For me, my PUL was an ectopic - I was monitored over three days and when the hcg was doubling and above 1000, they were eventually able to pick it up. Once I had a diagnosis, as devastating as it was, I was actually relieved because the uncertainty was over and because it was early, I responded well to treatment. My EPU was very cautious not to terminate a pregnancy unnecessarily but wanted to monitor me very closely and I found this very reassuring. Many other women have experienced similar and have had far more positive outcomes than I did.

The limbo is awful, it really, really is. It won’t last forever though and you will come through it, I promise. It is very hard to take your mind off it so all I can say is allow yourself to think about it and treat yourself kindly. I leaned on a friend who was brilliant and allowed me to cry down the phone to her and that really helped. Don’t be afraid to tell someone about it - reach out for support.

Update.. 48 hrs later got another scan and blood test.. this time they found a little something on the inside. Bit of a change from zero 48 hrs ago, must have been missed.

Took more bloods and rang an hr ago to say that the hcg hasnt doubled the way they wanted it to.. but still rose?
Friday they said it was 1200, but forgot to ask them what it was today.

Am i stupid for being hopeful?

@Peanuttybutty hey lovely, I went through the exact same thing this time last year. It's a whirlwind of emotions and I really feel for you. So frustrating not knowing what's going on.

For me, I was spotting after a BFP which is why went to the EPU. I had to keep having bloods every 48 hours for 2 weeks! It's very draining. They said to me with a healthy pregnancy, your HCG levels should be doubling every 48 hours. Mine were going up but barely. They assumed I would miscarriage naturally but sadly I ended up having to take methotrexate.

It's positive that they can now see something on the scan, but I guess

Sorry I sent that too early. Just keep an eye on your HCG levels. I asked every time they did mine. Have everyone crossed for you 🤞🏼
