I would love to hear from those of you that had your first baby in your forties. My husband and I have decided to try for our first - I am 42 and he is 51. We have been together for 12 years. It's not that I have been putting off having a baby - up to this point I genuinely did not want one. Every time I considered it I had a very strong feeling that it wasn't for me. And then in the last few weeks that feeling has changed entirely and when I think about having a baby a feeling of peace and reassurance comes over me. My husband took a little bit more convincing! Lol!

Anyhow, I know the statistics in terms of falling pregnant naturally at our age but we're big believers in what will be, will be so we're going for it! We're both (I think!) very young for our age both in terms of how we look and how we feel so we don't feel like old parents despite our dates of birth!

I really would love to hear from people who were in or are in a similar situation.

Thank you :)

I had ds at 45. His dad was 56. With us, it wasn't planned, I'd been told I couldn't have children 10 years earlier so it was a bit of a surprise, but it all went fine.
There are people on here who will say it's an irresponsible thing to do because they expect you to drop dead at 60, or not cope with a teen and the menopause at the same time, but I didn't even notice the change (too busy) Smile
Good luck. I hope it goes well.

Had my first and second (twins) at 41, turned 43 last week and currently pregnant with number 3. I've found being a new first time mum in my forties an amazing experience and never felt better! I have always kept very fit and active though and never drunk alcohol or smoked. Good luck xxx

You might enjoy this book written by a mum I know (The Secret Diary of a New Mum Aged 43 1/4):

I've not read it but she is a very funny person so I'm sure it's a good read!

My sister had her first at 45. She had PCOS and was told she couldn't get pregnant so eased off on birth control and boom.
A friend had her first at 46. Had been married over 15 years and hadn't happened and then it did. Her husband was 52.
I had mine at 41 and 43, my husband 45 and 47. I didn't get married until I was 40. Took about four months to get pregnant with both, not doing anything other than being aware of where I was in my cycle.
While it was an adjustment from career to babyhood, I wasn't particularly tired or anything.
All of the above babies are now strapping teenagers!
