Stories about conceiving in under 6 months?

Just to start this isn’t to offend anyone! I just want some positivity - I’m on month 3 (test next week) and just want some hope

My mind is quite extreme so because it hasn’t happened 1st or 2nd month I’ve panicked thinking it means it’ll be ages!

So mummies, did you conceive in under 6 months? And during that time did you get to a stage where you thought “is this ever going to happen?!” And then it did!

Really hoping I get my BFP next week. I am so ready to be pregnant and become a momma Smile

Hi. Yes I absolutely thought the same as you and was getting extremely stressed. We are told at school it's super easy to get pregnant, you can get pregnant any day of the month, and spend a lot of our lives trying to avoid getting pregnant, then when you want to try it's tricky.

Initially, my husband and I were having unprotected sex for about 4 months but we weren't doing it every day and I certainly wasn't checking the calendar so I shouldn't have expected to get pregnant - and I didn't. We were of the mind set "if it happens, then great".

I am 33, he is 37 and we are ever so slightly overweight (according to BMI). We don't look overweight to look at (in my opinion) but the calculators say we slightly are.

In January this year we decided to properly start trying. I cut out alcohol almost completely (maybe 1 drink a week if that) and he cut down too (maybe 2-3 a week). Some people say that cutting out alcohol is a myth - they might be right, but I just didn't want to think "what if" if I didn't stop. We both started exercising more, and took Wellman/Wellwoman supplements to help conception (again, some people say it's a con, but we had nothing to lose). I used Clearblue ovulation sticks, which I highly recommend. It tells you exactly when to do it. It was very boring to be honest, and we only had sex when there was a chance it worked.

January and February were a bit of a disaster as we were both ill on my "peak days" so we couldn't do it, so it minimised our chances. We tried properly in March, April, May and June and conceived in the June. In the June we used the "Sperm Meets Egg" method too (including sticks) and it worked. Not sure if it would have worked anyway, or if it was the SME.

I would recommend the sticks - about £20 a month, but if you are the sort of couple who can't or don't do it every night for whatever reason they're very useful.

I spoke to some GP friends of mine and they said that on the whole / generally speaking, if you don't think there is reason why you can't conceive (eg you are not aware of anything health wise) the high chances are you'll be able to conceive within a year and the main reason couples struggle is because they are doing it on the wrong day.

Good luck, and don't worry if it doesn't happen this month.

Hi op,

No success story here yet, but just wanted to say you are not alone! We are on month 4 and ready for it to happen!

BFPpleeeeeease · 07/01/2021 21:54

@kittenpeak thank you Smile congratulations !

To be totally honest we didn’t try properly first 2 months. I was grieving a loved one so I wasn’t really in the right mindset? And we didn’t really dedicate ourselves 110%

DH keeps saying that means this is our first month but it isn’t!

I started using clear blue this month which is really helpful! I ovulate about day 17/18 so not your typical day 14!

We said this month we’d try DTD every other day up until testing date/potential AF but when I have peak make sure we do it every day then

And thank you for the last line! I really need to stop the pressure, I worry as like the same as you said we’re both just in the overweight range BMI wise and when I mentioned this to a friend she looked at me like I had 2 heads! She also reminded me she was technically ‘obese’ when she conceived DD so not to focus on that too much.

Thank you again. Hoping it is our time soon but will try and ease up

I got pregnant 1st month, twice.

TopBants · 07/01/2021 21:57

We did first time both times just with DTD every other day- didn't bother with OPKs or anything. But I do have a friend who took 4 months to conceive her first.

BFPpleeeeeease · 07/01/2021 21:59

@Ritasueandbobtoo9 @TopBants wow very lucky! I wish I was that lucky Smile

But thank you for telling me and about your friend! I’m feeling reassured knowing that just because it wasn’t first month doesn’t mean it’ll be so far in the future. It could just be in between aka 3-6 months!

Took 5 months to conceive first time round, though sadly that was ectopic. Then it took another 5 months to conceive the one I am currently cooking, 8+6 today :)

Just a word of caution on threads like these though, try not to set your expectations too high because you have read loads of people catching on the first month. I did that and it tore me apart seeing BFN after BFN every month. It’s all good to have some hope but try not to pressure yourself too much x

kittenpeak · 07/01/2021 22:02

Hi @BFPpleeeeeease yes please don't be too hard on yourself. It can take up to a year. Please look up the "Sperm Meet Egg" method as that helps people.

DTD every other day is a good idea, just remember that there are some days when it's impossible to get pregnant, so depending on your partner's stamina you might only want to do that over a 2 week period (I'm no expert though!). Hopefully other replies will give you a bit of hope. I'm sure it will work out, and remember it is early days

outback81 · 07/01/2021 22:03

And to you lovely @BFPpleeeeeease
Most of my friends took 6 months to conceive, super healthy, gym goers, no issues, so don't worry of it doesn't happen straight away!

Wow, @Ritasueandbobtoo9 @TopBants how lucky are you!

BFPpleeeeeease · 07/01/2021 22:03

@MrsB2019x so sorry to hear that lovely but a major congratulations to you!

Thank you for your words. I read some threads here before we started and seen a lot like “accidental” / “1st time” so I did get my hopes up. It’s made the past 2 BFNs a bit crushing as I’ve felt like “why isn’t that me?” But I’m still within normal range for TTC and like I say it could be this month, even next month! Who knows but I shouldn’t worry now I don’t think

Thank you again

All mine - 3 - were conceived in the first month. I was very shocked.

ame88 · 07/01/2021 22:08

Currently 6 weeks pregnant after 5 months of TTC! Smile

timeforanother1 · 07/01/2021 22:11

My first we were very lucky with and it was first month trying- just using the apps for an idea of the fertile window.

Now ttc 2nd and just starting 3rd cycle and will use opk's from this month. First month I ended up being a week out with my fertile dates and this month I think I was right but rather know for sure.

I'm taking ttc vitamins too.

Want to get my bfp ASAP hoping this will be our month.

Good luck everyone.

LAgeDeRaisin · 07/01/2021 22:16

I got pregnant 1st try age 29.

Now trying again age 30 and am 9 DPO on month 2 with a negative test and have fingers crossed for tomorrow but feeling anxious about disappointment. I've been obsessing and have bought a small army of pregnancy tests.

Good luck to you OP! I'm a doctor and many couples I met in my GP rotations took 6 or 12 months (even some younger couples) so there's lots of hope.

I'd say try not to worry but I'm absolutely not one to talk!

Mochatatts · 07/01/2021 22:27

First time took 10 months after being on microgynon for 10 years. Second time took 3 months then early miscarriage then successful pregnancy 2 months later. This time first month at 37! His diet/lifestyle weren't great in terms of increasing our chances but we'd been in lockdown a couple of months and not working 60 hours a week might have helped.

grandmasterstitch · 07/01/2021 22:32

First time took 18 months with OPKs and tracking and sex every other day then one month it just worked. I'm 24 weeks pregnant now and this one we decided to start assuming it would take a while. DTD twice around fertile month and I was pregnant. The only difference was I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism after DS was born and I wonder if it had been there undiagnosed while we were TTC but I guess I'll never know. Good luck OP, I hope you get your BFP soon!

Terracottasaur · 08/01/2021 01:42

Month 4 for me! Like you I wasn’t really dedicated the first couple of months. I didn’t track ovulation etc, just had sex every couple of days throughout the month.

Good luck! Fingers crossed it happens for you soon Flowers

VNttc · 08/01/2021 07:30

I had this mindset from about month 3 as well, the first month we weren't trying properly, second month we DTD every other day through fertile window, then I started clearblue advanced ovulation (where I found out I ovulate early, around day 10/11) the next month I added in conceive plus lubricant!

Most months I found dtd very stressful so we only did it twice (day of peak and day after).

Got my BFP on new years eve and the only thing we'd done differently was that we'd had a week off together which fell on my fertile week and we dtd 4 days in a row! So maybe it was that? That was month 6 of trying :)

I highly recommend the book the impatient women's guide to getting pregnant. Its light hearted but also full of science about best time to so it to maximise chances :)
