BMI and TTC

Just wondering if BMI really does affect TTC? I'm not overweight but probably after Christmas splurge I'm either in the technically overweight category or top end of normal BMI. Obviously after Christmas I'll be going back to normal healthy diet and no alcohol and we are going to start TTC from next week. Does BMI really affect TTC at this level or is it only if your BMI is really high? I'm quite active (walk with the dog every day and previously jogged 3 times a week but haven't done that for about 3 weeks). I think I'm just over thinking the whole TTC and writing it off before anything happens but I just want a baby so much!

Hi @TTCnum1

Bmi can affect it but only if it’s really high usually. Mine was high with my first (higher now Blush ) but it didn’t cause the issues I had. It sounds like your in the healthy rage pretty much so I don’t think it’s something to focus on really. Just stay healthy and happy Smile

With my son I got pregnant on my first cycle ttc and my BMI was 33. I did have high blood pressure issues in pregnancy which the weight wont have helped but didnt affect me getting pregnant.

If yours is only around 25 I wouldnt worry at all Smile

Only if it’s unusually high should it effect your chances. I think you’re automatically put into the high risk category if your BMI is over 30 at the time you conceive, but I could be wrong. I was 27.1 when I conceived, and that is considered overweight. Took 4 months. If you’ve just put on some Christmas weight and that puts You in the overweight category I wouldn’t worry. Best of luck and have fun.

I’ve had a high BMI with all 3 pregnancies and conceived within 1-2 months with each one. I’m 25 weeks now with #3 and my BMI is it’s highest ever (over 50). So you will be absolutely fine.
