Hi everyone. My boyfriend and I have been together a year and half and due to me not tolerating hormonal contraception (I tried 4 different pills and had awful side effects with all of them :( with one of them I was even spotting every single day for 3 months. we decided to give up on those and do the withdrawal method. Has anyone fell pregnant using this method?? He pulls out quite early and not at the last second.

Yes plenty of people do. Try copper coil

AlwaysNapTime · 25/12/2020 18:51

Currently 14 weeks pregnant as a result of the withdrawal method.

NotImpossible · 25/12/2020 18:51

It's not reliable. Condoms?

AdultHumanFemale · 25/12/2020 18:52

Yes.

TheFlis12345 · 25/12/2020 18:52

Yup, my SIL, despite breast feeding at the time and also having ovarian cysts that made it very hard to conceive.

Ohalrightthen · 25/12/2020 18:52

There's a word for people who use this method - parents.

Just use condoms! I can't tolerate hormonal contraception and the copper coil made me bleed nonstop, so my DH and i have used condoms for the past 8 years (except when TTC). When we're done having kids he'll get the snip.

If you’re having sex without contraception then you risk getting pregnant

loveyourself2020 · 25/12/2020 18:54

Yes, three times :(

HermioneWeasley · 25/12/2020 18:56

It’s completely unreliable - why do you think the pill was so revolutionary?

What about condoms?

AIMD · 25/12/2020 18:57

Are you monitoring your cycle as well so you avoid your fertile times?

As others have said though....yea plenty people will have got pregnant this way. If you don’t want to you will need to do more than just withdraw method.

slipperywhensparticus · 25/12/2020 19:02

By itself yes you need to be tracking your cycle and allsorts

Ohalrightthen · 25/12/2020 19:03

@DownstairsMixUp

I used it for years and never got pregnant but I wouldn't recommend as I do know people it didn't work for!
Out of interest, do you have kids now? I had a friend who used the withdrawal method for years, but when she wanted to have kids she really really struggled and ended up having IVF. Withdrawal just isn't a good idea.
SimplyRadishing · 25/12/2020 19:04

Another upvote for condoms

NiceTwin · 25/12/2020 19:06

Like you, I was sensitive to hormonal contraception, so used the withdrawal method all my adult life.
I didn't fall pregnant, I thought I was infertile at one point but it ends up I was just incredibly lucky.

kittycat337 · 25/12/2020 19:06

Thanks guys 🙏🏻 We will need to use condoms then. I downloaded the app Flo to monitor my cycles. And just realized we used the withdrawal method twice on my ovulation day, and the day just before! Which means today I am around 12dpo. So risky. We won’t do that again. My period is supposed to start on Monday. Let’s see

Eeesh OP that's not good.

My 3 year old Grin wouldn't change him for the world but shit that method doesn't work ha!

marthastew · 25/12/2020 19:21

Yep - my third child. She is lovely and I wouldn't be without her but absolutely not planned!

justkeepmoving11 · 25/12/2020 19:32

We did this successfully for five years when another pregnancy wouldn't have been the end of the world. Switched to condoms when we decided we would really not be happy if it did happen and lo and behold, two months in, condom failed and I was pregnant. I'd try something else though I know it's difficult, my mood was altered so badly on the pill which is why I had stopped originally.

Springfern · 25/12/2020 19:36

I use it, not pregnant yet...touch wood

C0NNIE · 25/12/2020 19:41

Don’t be silly, it’s not reliable. Use condors and use them properly.

^^ This. DS is now at Uni Grin

Viviennemary · 25/12/2020 19:49

Plenty of people. It's extremely unreliable.
