Hi you may of seen my previous thread.
So I had what I thought was a regular period arrive on predicted day. It was a bit shorter than usual, 6 days later I got a posting pregnancy test strong lines also they have stayed strong since I started testing 5 days ago. I tested on a whim as had that felt pregnant feeling.
Last Friday I had bloods taken I would of been just under 6 weeks got the results today my hcg Level is 89 which I guess is low. I’ve had repeat bloods taken today I won’t know the results for a few days. Should I just be expecting for this pregnancy to not continue now? Really hard being in limbo especially just before Christmas.
Thank you

Hi @wavecatcher I saw your other post on the other thread. What a confusing time! Some women have periods throughout their pregnancies, maybe you are one of them. I work with a lady who had a couple of normal periods during early pregnancy.
I wouldn’t get too hung up on your HCG result. If you’ve continued to get strong pregnancy test results that’s really good. I’ve had an ectopic before so now I have 48hrly bloods done every early pregnancy so I know a bit about it unfortunately. One HCG result isn’t enough to give an indication. You need at least 2 - 4 to give a good picture of a healthy progression. They should at least double every 48-36 hours. If it makes you feel any better I was getting positive HPT’s so got all excited but when bloods were taken my HCG was only 21!! I was gutted! That one ended in a loss for me unfortunately. So I think your 89 seems a really great start! 💖 🥰😘

Hi @wavecatcher, I'm sorry you are in limbo at the moment, it can be so unsettling not knowing what's going on inside your body!
I recently had an MC at 6 weeks unfortunately and my HCG the day I started bleeding was 245 and 60 48 hours later. But what made the midwives certain this was an MC, even before the second blood test, was my progesterone, which was 1.4 (it should be at least 5 apparently in a viable pregnancy).
So one HCG measurement on its own doesn't give you the whole picture. Do you know if they tested your progesterone as well with the same sample?
HCG can vary greatly from woman to woman and pregnancy to pregnancy, but I was told that, generally, at 6 weeks it is expected for them to be between 10800-56500. Are you absolutely sure about your dates? Maybe you ovulated later than usual and your light period was implantation bleeding?
I'm sorry to be giving you questions instead of answers! I hope everything works out for you, keeping my fingers crossed! 🤞🏼

*Sorry, the HCG range is 1080-56500, added a zero there where it shouldn't be. 🙊

ivfbeenbusy · 22/12/2020 07:04

Sorry @wavecatcher unfortunately that number is really low for 6 weeks and doesn't suggest a viable pregnancy at this point? A level of 100 is what most doctors/ivf clinics looks for at 4 weeks pregnancy to indicate a pregnancy with a good chance of success x

Bleepers · 22/12/2020 07:22

@ivfbeenbusy is that an HCG level of 100 at 4 weeks? Thank you!

ivfbeenbusy · 22/12/2020 08:11

@Bleepers

Yes there have been a few studies which have shown pregnancies which are most likely to be viable have a hcg of around 100+ at 14DPO (or 9dp5dt if doing IVF)

(Although I'm sure someone will be along who will say they had a hcg of 15 or something at 14DPO and had a healthy baby....but they really are the exception rather than the norm and most likely they have miscalculated their ovulation dates)

Thank you so much for your reply, I'm sorry for your loss. That's an interesting point about not just basing it on HCG levels. Hopefully I will find out soon my second HCG results to be able to compare.

Thank you so much for your reply I'm sorry you have been through similar. I had no clue about progesterone levels actually or if any where even taken. I'm not feeling positive as my results where very low like you say way out to make it viable. The limbo is the hardest bit, I certain about dates as I track my period and ovulation, so makes it a more final sadly.

Thank you for your reply honestly wish the doctors would explain more about levels so I would have a better idea of the outcome. At least forums like this are really helpful and full of knowledgeable ladies.
