TTC after CSection

How long did you/is it best to wait? I was told 2 years at the time but have since seen advice ranging from as soon as 6 months up to 15/18months?

I should probably add it was an elected Csection, I healed fine and have had no problems since. I’m mid thirties so don’t want to wait too long if I can avoid it.

No just waited 8 months. Had my second 20 months after my first (by section again, both for medical reasons). Docs never said anything that I recall. I was early 40s couldn't wait and thought about a two year age gap was good.

WinterBabyof89 · 19/12/2020 23:00

I had two sections in 14 months as my second was a rainbow baby so I didn’t leave much time between them. I didn’t have any medical issues thankfully although DS2 arrived 5weeks early.

@WinterBabyof89 do you mind me asking whether you went into labour 5 weeks early? Or was it a planned CSection?

The official advice is 18 months to 2 years due to the risk of uterine rupture (rare but serious). However, a friend conceived DC2 just before DC1s 1st birthday (CS) and was fine. Its more about individual choice and risk factors. My pregnancy because high risk at the end so I had a planned c section and therefore have waited over 2 years and would delay TTC given the current climate. I am also mid 30s

WinterBabyof89 · 20/12/2020 08:37

@mamablondie33 spontaneous labour. I’d planned for a section at 37wks but didn’t make it.
They offered me a VBAC but I’d read the chance of Uterine rupture was significantly higher if you leave less time between sections, and having a pregnancy so quick after my last section was enough risk for me!

lionsmum · 20/12/2020 17:43

@mamablondie33 similar to PP, I had my DS1 delivered by section then our rainbow baby 15 months later also delivered by planned section, so I was pregnant again around 6/7 months after my first section, I had no surgical complications from my initial section and healing well 2nd time round too. Good luck OP☺️

I don't recall getting any advice. DC2 born (also by CS) 18 months after DC1.

Drbrowns · 20/12/2020 17:48

I was told at least 15 months before ttc again to leave at least 2 years between delivery.

user1493413286 · 20/12/2020 17:50

Consultant told me 2 year between actual births was the best in an ideal world

Took · 20/12/2020 17:57

My consultant told me to TTC any time after my first period as that was my body’s way of saying it was ready again.
Though from reading what others get told I'm not sure how accurate that is!
If it makes a difference my DS was stillborn so I didn’t have the stresses of breastfeeding etc so no extra pressures on my body, iykwim.
I had my next baby 5 days short of a year later and all went well.

ForeverBubblegum · 20/12/2020 17:58

I was advised to wait a year, but DS was a high needs baby, so it was actually 2 and a half before we were ready. I think it can depend on how the op goes (size and location of cut maybe?). So I would go with what you were advised, not what anyone else has done.

ivfbeenbusy · 20/12/2020 17:58

My IVF clinic wouldn't allow another transfer until it would be 18 months between c sections. If I wanted to push it to 12 months I'd need a specialist to sign it off having examined my scar internally

I've known people for whom it did rupture and they nearly died/enforced hysterectomy when they didn't wait very long.....

mamablondie33 · 20/12/2020 18:17

@ForeverBubblegum weirdly they advised me just before I had the op, so it wasn’t tailored advice. No follow up appts either just standard midwife/postnatal check.

@ivfbeenbusy that sounds horrific. I’m very much of a mind that if there’s even the slightest increase in risk then I will just wait.
