Confused over Pregnancy tests

Period is late, although not unusual if I miss a couple of weeks of my metformin tablets. Had a Pregnancy test in my draw just a morrisons one. The one I used a couple of months ago was negative. Got my period about 2 hours after taking it. The one I've just taken today however came up positive even as the dye was still running across. Dried faint but it's there. Rushed out and got a couple more. This time clear and simple. Took one and it's negative not even a hint of a second line. Took it probably about 30 mins after the first one and all I'd had in between was the liquid in my noodles and a few mouthfuls of coffee so I doubt it would have diluted my wee that much. This is the test. The second line in person is definitely pale pink. Does anyone know if the morrisons test might have given me a false positive?

You'd need a two hour hold probably to allow for enough hcg to build up in your system. Also were they the same brand of test? Different brands have different hcg thresholds so a line may appear on some but not others if it's early days in the pregnancy. I'd say hold it and try again tonight!

boymum88 · 15/12/2020 15:40

That does look like a positive test, like the other person said it maybe down to how sensitive the other test are, it may require a high hcg level x

EggnogAndAMincepie · 15/12/2020 15:43

@Juno231 oh I can definitely hold. Community Carer so I'm used to holding it in for hours at a time and I won't be drinking now until I finish work tonight at 10pm. Pretty sure I used clear and simple last time I was Pregnant and that was a strong positive when I was a week late, but the strip ones were a little fainter. It'll be just my luck that the positive one is false

Sorry yeah they were different brands. Positive one morrisons early detection test. Negative one clear and simple

I can see a line on both OP, I'd say it's definitely a true positive x

Isadora2007 · 15/12/2020 16:13

Both are positive?

EggnogAndAMincepie · 15/12/2020 16:21

@Alittlexmasmagic
@Isadora2007

These are the same test. I threw the negative one out after double checking it

Morrison tests are generally unreliable , if you look at the app there are lots of negative reviews.
Try a more reliable brand such as clearview.

Alittlexmasmagic · 15/12/2020 16:55

@EggnogAndAMincepie sorry, thought you'd posted both tests for comparison. Whilst cheap tests may be more unreliable, I'd have thought they were more likely to get a false negative than a false positive. I'd recommend going for something like a FRER (but even they have bad reviews from understandably upset ladies) x

EggnogAndAMincepie · 15/12/2020 16:59

@naturalyoghurtmuncher see this is what I don't understand because I used morrisons pregnancy tests during my previous pregnancy and they worked fine. I've used them to test for Pregnancies over the last 10 months and all have been negative when I wasn't Pregnant. The only false positive I got was from a co op one after I'd opened it and exposed it to air and a faint line showed hours later.

Going with false positive! Both clear and simples are negative. Ah well there's always next month

What if you ovulated late this month so you are not as late as you think you are? If the morrisons test is an early detection test it might be picking up low levels of hcg that the other tests can detect yet? I wouldn't count yourself out just yet!

EggnogAndAMincepie · 15/12/2020 22:26

@MrFlibblesEyes it would be nice, but it would've been October if anything. Me and my OH are long distance so I really only see him when he's this way with work

False positives are extremely rare; I personally would ignore it when people go on about certain tests being unreliable- there is no proof of that it is just hearsay (especially on mumsnet). - constantly see "boots tests are unreliable" "don't use tesco they are unreliable". It simply isn't true.

I would say test again this morning and see then. Also as someone has said the hcg detection varies with tests so the morrisons one may be more sensitive.

Good Luck!
