PCOS success stories

Hi Everyone,

It's been 2 years since I've started my ttc journey. I have been diagnosed with PCOS. I have been on metformin for over a year and although it has massively regulated my cycles (reduced from 38-40 days to 29 -30 days) I have not had any success in getting pregnant. I am beginning to lose hope and would just love to hear your success stories to give me some motivation.

I have pcos on conceived my DS in 2017 after almost 3 years of trying. He was conceived using metformin and clomid though. I do not ovulate on my own.

We are trying for baby no2 with no success yet and it's been over 18 months now. I became clomid resistant so was swapped to letrozole and although I did ovulate, none of the 3 cycles resulted in me getting pregnant. Not overly sure what next steps are for us now but we'll be looking at private treatment next year as there's no funding for secondary infertility in my CCG.

Well, I see getting pregnant as a success so I managed to get pregnant in summer after taking myo inositol.

Pregnancy didn't progress but I see it positive that I got pregnant in the first place.

Apparently those with PCOS are something like 3 times more likely to miscarry than anyone else which is rather disheartening 😞

I was diagnosed with severe PCOS at 15 years old and my infertility was confirmed in 2015 (at 31 years old) after a year of TTC.

I had my DD1 in 2017 on round 3 of IVF after 3 years of TTC. (Rounds 1 and 2 ended in miscarriage) We had private treatment abroad because my DH has children from a previous relationship; so we weren’t eligible for help on the NHS. Going private did make progress significantly quicker but also more expensive.

Then in 2018 I fell pregnant with DD2 naturally in the midst of planning another round of IVF for a sibling! At my first scan I was told my ovaries looked totally normal now! Apparently pregnancy can reverse PCOS Shock

It’s so hard not to lose faith in the midst of it all but there are so many treatments available to you. My advice would be to research lots, arm yourself with your options and then push for what you need if your GP/clinic aren’t being very accommodating. I used to run a PCOS thread on the infertility boards. If you haven’t already, look there for support and a whole wealth of info on things to try- supplements and myo-inositol for starters. Blood tests to check for ovulation- regular cycles don’t automatically mean you are ovulating. Then push for clomid if you aren’t ovulating. If that doesn’t work, you could try IUI too before landing at IVF.

Lots of hope! Push for answers X

I did! I have had two children now.

I found that taking regular exercise and losing weight made an impact on my PCOS (although to be quite fair, one of the children was conceived when I was quite overweight and not exercising much).

I have never been prescribed Metformin but when considering my second pregnancy I did do some research into herbal supplements and began taking agnus castus (sometimes known as vitex).

I actually continued this into the first 12 weeks of my pregnancy although this is not recommended.

It might be something to investigate.

Years of fertility treatment ended unsuccessfully for us after a PCOS diagnosis.

I started training for a half marathon in a desperate attempt to feel like I was in charge of the body that had 'failed' me so miserably. Dropped a bit of weight, started having sex for fun instead of to a schedule, and conceived both our kids naturally.

Sending you positive vibes ❤️.

Thank you ladies for sharing your stories. It's been quite uplifting reading it.

I do have some weight to lose. Was doing so well before lockdown. I have had a check for blocked tubes now and will be starting clomid soon.

@ApplePie86 @YouBoggleMyMind Wishing you loads of luck on conceiving :)

It took many years and the heartbreak of 2 miscarriages, but I have two healthy children and the second child took less than a year to conceive and seemed to alter things somehow (I now have a period every 1-2 months when it used to be 3 times a year!)

Thank you so much everyone. It has been a heartbreaking journey so far and your stories have really given me hope. Smile
