I took one on friday and got a faint line, then i took a cb on wednesday and got a bfn, then took 2 more tescos own on friday and got faint line. These were all using fmu. took another today at about 4 this afternoon and got yet another faint line but 2 ebay tests were saying bfn.

I take all the test strips out of the plastic as they are easier to see when not having to look through plastic windows. could thisaffect the test result?

I used a tesco pg test with my littlest but I didn't dismantle it!!!!! I don't think it would alter the result it's just picking up the hormones, I believe a bfp is a bfp and a bfn could be false.....congrats???!!!!! Are you past your AF date???

Gursky · 21/10/2007 20:11

With this pregnancy I only got a faint line on a Tesco test, but I was positive. Fingers crossed for you.

pepperpots · 21/10/2007 20:27

i'm sooo sorry to put a downer on this one... but i used to do this and if you take it out of the container the colour will not have time to reach the end and produce the bfp. I read through the peeonastick website it tells you there. However - if you took the strip out of the case and then dipped it in that will give you a correct result.. if this is the case congrats

iliketosleep · 21/10/2007 20:44

i did it then waited until the control line had come up and the pink smear had cleared then took it out

never heard of this dismantling business!

Removing the test from its plastic case changes the test's exposure to air and humidity. Air and humidity affect the manner and rate at which the dye and chemicals cross the test. If you change the environment before the test is finished, you risk drying it out too quickly and when a test dries too quickly, the dye may dry in places it would not have otherwise making an evap line appear to be a positive result. Additionally, the tests are intended to be used and read while intact. If you think you see a line, but it is so faint you really can't tell, it's probably an evap line and should be considered negative.

Please note: pregnancy tests will work almost anywhere-- the problem is not the amount of air or humidity in general, but changing it in the middle. HPT's are scientific little things, and to achieve greatest accuracy, the environment should not be changed while the test is running.

If you want to photograph or scan your test for posterity it can be easier when removed from its plastic casing (to eliminate glare.) If your test is positive, go for it! If it's negative, or you're not sure, you're in a tough spot . . . removing the test from its casing while the test is still wet can "speed-dry" an evap line and make it darker/harder to interpret. But tests are not completely dry at the 10-minute time limit; by the time they dry, the test has passed the 10-minute limit and should not be read. If you think you'll be in conundrum, use a dip-style test or remove the test from its casing before you apply urine.

This is taken from the website i mentioned HTH

iliketosleep · 21/10/2007 22:07

ah ha! so it may be a false positive!

I did wonder, theonly thing that made me think otherwise was that the line was there as soon as i took the test apart. I may get another and try using it as a dip style test!

Good luck!

queenofcups · 17/11/2007 14:32

Is 9 days after ovulation too early to get a positive test result

belgo · 17/11/2007 14:34

queenofcups - that's very early to test - you will probably be wasting your money on a test at this stage.

Wait five days or so.

queenofcups · 17/11/2007 14:39

Thanks for yr answer. I recently had a sterilization reversal so im anxiously waiting to see if its worked i already have 3 kids the oldest is 20 cant believe how little i remember about it or how unintense it seemed to be last time

queenofcups · 17/11/2007 14:41

By the way i did use a tesco test sorry if im changing the thread a bit new to this

Columbia · 17/11/2007 14:46

No, a lot of people get a bfp at 9 days but more don't

You might be lucky but worth waiting a day or two as it will be clearer and you'll only use up another test!

queenofcups · 17/11/2007 14:50

WAIT whats that mean i think ive lost the ability i cant believe ive turned into this obsessive baby person

Columbia · 17/11/2007 15:01

It means you might just get a result now (bfp=big fat positive) but if you wait a couple more days and are pregnant, it's more likely to show up by then so you'll have saved yourself a test!
If it's neg today it doesn't necessarily mean you're not preggie, iyswim. Might just be too early

queenofcups · 17/11/2007 15:04

Whats the best test to get for giving early BFP

blushingm · 18/11/2007 22:35

I used a tesco's own as a Clear Blue gave me a BFP and I didn't believe it - the line on the tesco's one was very faint so I got another clear Blue and it was a BFP again - First Response were good too - I don't think if I'd used the Tesco one first I would have tested again - I'd have assuned a BFN as the line was soooooooo feint

Good Luck

blushingm · 18/11/2007 22:36

PS I'm not really a test obsessive I just couldn't believe it!!!
