Last year I had a MC which was a blighted ovum and was just wondering if that still counted as a pregnancy? And can me and my partner still have children as I’ve heard stories about people not being compatible with each other so I’m scared incase me and my partner can’t have children together. Looking for some advice x

Hi there,

My first pregnancy was actually a blighted ovum they think (hate that term!). Discovered at 12 week scan.

2 months later I was pregnant again. He's four now. Don't worry, this is very common (still awful though) and doesn't mean you won't get pregnant again.

Good luck, keep going.

Thank you so much! @BriocheBuns

During the time I thought something was wrong with me but realised it’s actually very common, congrats about your child and thank you! X @

50% of miscarriages are blighted ovum type

It's an outdated term anyway - now known as Anembryonic Pregnancy

I didn’t realise they had changed the name and that’s crazy I didn’t realise they were that common! @gypsywater

How do you know if you and your partner are not compatible?

Hi @Dogloverxo. I'm sorry for your loss.
That happened to me on my second pregnancy (identified at 9 weeks). It absolutely still counts as a pregnancy.

How long have you been TTC? I really wouldn't worry that you and your partner are somehow incompatible. I'm not even sure if that is a thing. If you are seriously concerned, the best thing to do would be for both of you to have fertility tests done. If you've been TTC for over twelve months since your MC, then you may be able to be referred for some under the NHS. If not, you may have to pay privately.

Best of luck, OP.
