PCOS advice- did you take inositol

Hi ladies
I need some advice/reviews
I had a mc at 4 weeks and had some tests etc done aswell since my periods never follow a fixed date ; i.e one cycle would be 33 day next would be 37 ,, 39 40, 32, 44 etc. No fixed date as u can see. Anyways i never had any pcos symptoms other than this which is why it got ignored maybe and few yrs back external scan done which they said i might b pcos. Had an internal scan done this week (its been about 30days since the mc) and turns out one of my ovaries is very very slightly pcos. Now ive been told to wait for period and do the blood tests between cd1 to 5. And if that shows pcos too then metformin is the route ive been told.
What i wanted advice on or feedback from your experience, since im what you can call borderline pcos, would inositol b a better option? Have any of you tried inoisitol and which brand? I cant find any which dont have folic acid etc as I am already taking pregnacare conception and that has folic acid and all the other vitamins.
Thanks

Would def recommend inositol. I've used a few brands, sometimes it's called inositol, sometimes myo-inositol but same thing. I take the powder form mixed with water first thing. It tastes sweet and kinda nice. There's one on Amazon called Jarrow which does not have folic acid.

I was diagnosed with PCOS maybe 7 or 8 years ago. I had wild periods like yours, but then I went three months with no period so went to doctor, had ultrasound, and they found one ovary had PCOS. The doctor told me if I avoided putting on weight I probably wouldn't develop any major problems with it!!! This is easier said than done with PCOS, but I have managed it. My periods were still patchy though, so I started inositol maybe 4 years ago ish, and after a couple of months on it, they evened out. They vary by about 5 days each month now, which is not bad. I have never missed one since starting the inositol. It also helps me with keeping the weight off; it's still hard work but it's easier than before I was on it. If you are overweight, then losing it is really helpful for PCOS.

I conceived my first child on the third month of trying, so obviously no conception problems. I've since been keeping track of BBT and I ovulate every cycle. I recently had an ultrasound for something else and asked if they'd look at my ovaries at the same time, and they said they could hardly see anything at all and would never have guessed I had PCOS if I hadn't asked about it.

I've never been on metformin, but I have heard about side effects. Personally I would try the inositol first as it's much more natural (your body makes small amounts already). Just my opinion though Smile

Yes I did. There have actually been studies into it's effectiveness for preventing gestational diabetes, like this one www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6823013/#:~:text=Inositol%2C%20an%20emerging%20novel%20therapy,important%20role%20in%20glucose%20homeostasis.
I thought I didn't much fancy gestational diabetes! I thought these trials must show it was safe, but I also checked with the midwife and she said it was fine.

HettiSpagetti · 26/11/2020 14:55

Yes from me too!

I take about 1g mixed in my orange juice. Was pregnant 3 weeks after starting taking it with no period in the las 6 months. Was taking it when I accidentally got pregnant the second time too, seems to make my cycle regular. I took it until the second trimester both times.

I buy it from bulk powders, quick delivery and a big bag.

Ive started it. The spoon that comes with it is 630mg and then i have 50mg in pregnacare with dinner. So thats 680mg. Is that too little or ok given that I am told I have mild pcos

The brand I use most says to take 2000mg twice daily. I never took as much as that though; I took 2000mg once daily. Seemed to be enough for me, but then that's still three times what you're suggesting your brand says.
This is the one I use most:www.<a class="break-all" href="https://amazon.co.uk/dp/B0188F273G/ref=cm_sw_r_em_apa_fabt1_mZrXFbDXCS4WF?tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-conception-4090424-PCOS-advice-did-you-take-inositol" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">amazon.co.uk/dp/B0188F273G/ref=cm_sw_r_em_apa_fabt1_mZrXFbDXCS4WF
You can see the dosage on one of the pictures.
Sure everyone will benefit from different amounts though - I'm not advising you to ignore your own brand's dosage necessarily :)

Iloveoreos · 30/11/2020 17:09

Mine says to take 3 times a day so thats 1890mg a day. Ill slowly build up to 1000 and see how it goes.

Hi all. I’ve had quite a journey with PCOS and now expecting my 1st after 18 months. I really hope my story can help just 1 person. I was initially prescribed metformin and letrozole. The metformin was way too strong and made me feel sick and nauseas most days so I reduced the amount I took. I gave up after 3 months after failing to conceive and then after a further 3 months decided to go with my gut feeling. I took letrozole twice a day during my cycle days 2-5 I think, and conceived. I even rang the dr to say I followed my instinct and he said I did a better job than him! Honestly please please do what feels right for your body. I was 8 stone pre pregnancy and I personally feel metformin was too vigorous. I also think there’s a huge difference between having pcos and just polycystic ovaries. At my 12 week scan, my ovaries had no cysts. I didn’t go via the NHS as I found them unhelpful so my letrozole prescription was private at a fertility MOT clinic. I hope this helps xx

Iloveoreos · 30/11/2020 19:18

@har1991 im similar weight as u. 7.5 stone! Were u mildly polycystic too hun?

I actually never really got a full explanation as to the extent of it however I don’t think I had all the symptoms - eg typically I would have had a higher weight etc. The dr said that’s why pcos is more common now so I personally think it was just polycystic ovaries. Have you letrozole?

No . I have started inositol tho. Taking 1.2g a day so far. Let see how it goes.
