How long did it take for periods to return to normal after copper coil removal?

Hi Girls,

I know the doctors say copper coils shouldn't affect your cycle, but mine has and I've read posts from lots of women on here who have had the same thing happen to them, so just looking for some reassurance really.

I had the coil removed in July, had my period like normal a couple days later. A normal period for me is 30 day cycle, medium flow, over 4-5 days. It's been that way for years, and I was very regular. My first period after that was in August, it was 41 day cycle and was very light and only 2 days long. Since then my cycle has ranged between 25-29 days, and has been consistently light and or spotting, over 2-3 days. I am getting PMS symptoms I have never had before like hot flushes, brain fog and large, painful spots on my face and body, and crazy mood swings both when I'm ovulating and when I'm on my period - I've never had any symptoms during ovulation before. I'm due to ovulate any day now, and I am so emotional and angry - one minute I'm bursting into tears, and the next I'm in a rage. I don't know what's happening to me, or why, or when it will stop.

Me and my partner are trying to concieve, and even though we've only been actively trying for the last three cycles, the massive changes to my cycle and my mood is really freaking me out. I've read lots of posts from women who have said the same thing happened to them, but haven't seen any follow up posts about whether their periods eventually sorted themselves out and whether they were able to concieve despite all this.

I'm 30, and my partner is 42 - I did get pregnant before when I was 26 but had an abortion, and that was when I was recommended the copper coil. My partner has two children from a previous relationship, but that was 14 years ago now.

I feel like an emotional wreck constantly and can't shake myself out of it, and after 4 months of this I'm really struggling to deal with it now, so any reassurance or success stories would be much appreciated.

Thank you, Jessica

I know you're attributing these changes to the coil but it isn't meant to affect your cycle at all. I'd be wanting to get checked out by the doctor in your situation as this situation isn't usual. There could be an underlying issue that developed while the coil was in (and is unrelated).
