Vitex/Agnus Castus - experiences?

Hi all,

I'd like to hear about other people's experiences with Vitex.

I've recently started taking Vitex/Agnus Castus to improve ovulation and cycles. I had the hormonal IUS (Mirena) for over a decade and after having it removed I have had 24 day cycles with only 2 fertile days using OPK (one flashing smiley one solid smiley). This is the first month taking it and I've already had one more fertile day than normal and better cervical fluid. My last period was lighter too. I'm taking 400mg in the morning first thing and 400mg in the afternoon.

Looking forward to hearing your stories!

@Aw326 thanks so much ☺️ The seven seas have a very low dose of b vitamins. Maybe look into a b vitamin complex? X

I’m not TTC, but I take Angus Castus abs Vitamin B6 for very bad PMT and they’ve helped a lot, I think the B6 has helped more tbh, so if you think you might have a hormonal imbalance then they’re worth a try!

Hello all, esp ( @MintGreenLife and @Mommybear05 ) - just following up with this thread.

I've continued taking the agnus castus in a lower dose (400mg) and added B complex (but started after ovulation this month- so happy to share that after 8 months ttc I just got my first ever BFP!!

It's early days as I just missed AF yesterday, but happy to have gotten this far. I think the agnus castus may have helped with my hormones after having had a hormonal iud for so many years.

@Aw326 that’s amazing!! Huge congratulations 🥳 I’m 6+2 now myself xx

Mommybear05 · 10/12/2020 10:49

@Aw326 that’s amazing news!!! Congratulations!! It may well be the vitamin b too as that’s what I did- vitamin b after ovulation!
Well done! How are you feeling? I’ll be seven weeks tomorrow and the pregnancy symptoms have really hit me! I feel so sick! I’ve booked an early reassurance scan for next weekend at eight weeks 🤞🤞🤞
Congratulations again wonderful news. That’s how long I tried 8 months since my previous miscarriage. seems like forever doesn’t it! X

ForeverHopeful17 · 10/12/2020 11:02

Congratulations @Aw326 I'm wishing you a happy and healthy 9 months Smile

Did you continue taking vitex after ovulation or did you stop?

Aw326 · 10/12/2020 11:14

Thanks everyone! Lovely to see nice messages. I'm not sure if I should call my gp today or wait a few days as I'm still so early on. I'm not in London (where I normally live), we've been staying with family in Wales all autumn and winter so will have to decide if we go back in January for appointments and things...

@MintGreenLife - I'm so happy that things are going well for you. Are you feeling alright?

@Mommybear05 - thank you! It might be the vitamin b. I feel pretty normal, I haven't exactly had cramps, but my lower abdomen feels a bit weird/like I have to pee all the time. I'm only at just under 4 weeks so I'll have to wait and see about sickness. Apparently being sick can be a good sign of a strong pregnancy - but I hope it isn't too awful for you. And yes 8 months really felt like forever. Good to know it does just take time. I'm 36 almost 37, so I suppose that's not unusual.

@ForeverHopeful17 - Many thanks! I have continued taking the vitex, the same 400mg every day, which is a half dose. I'll have to look up when to stop, though I've read very contradictory things about that. I don't think I'll stop right away.

@Aw326 I waited 5ish days before I called the GP to allow time to do a few more tests. I have a similar drama in that we are on the cusp of moving house and relocating, so don't know what that'll mean for my appointments. I have my booking appointment over the phone next Tuesday.

I feel fine to be honest! I have sore boobs (every since my BFP) and mild nausea, but that's it so far. How are you feeling?! xx

@MintGreenLife I don't seem to have any symptoms other than a very dull achy feeling - I wouldn't even call it a cramp, but it's in the same place low down in my abdomen as my normal AF cramps. But no AF in sight, and a positive test, so I guess that's pretty clear!

Sorry to hear about your moving drama. We tried to buy a house just before the pandemic and it all fell through, now not sure what will happen. But I suppose I'll be having my appts in London for now. Will wait a few more days to call.

Aw lovely updates all of you!! Wishing you all happy pregnancies, baby dust all around 😘🥰 @Aw326 I usually wait till 6ish weeks to book in with the GP/start the ball rolling on appointments.

I'm 24 weeks tomorrow, trying to enjoy it as it's my last pregnancy x

Stabal · 11/12/2020 01:24

Omg @MintGreenLife I'm so happy to read this! We've spoken before and I've been following. Congratulations!

MintGreenLife · 11/12/2020 10:47

@Aw326 it's really early so wouldn't worry about lack of symptoms, when you think about it lots of women don't know they are pregnant until they are 7-8 weeks along!

It's a horrible industry isn't it. We finally got an answer out of our solicitor tomorrow who said moving in the new year is looking 'likely'. Wish he said that before we sold our sofa and packed up half our stuff...going to be an interesting Christmas ha. How are you feeling today?

@Stabal thanks so much :)

Aw326 · 11/12/2020 14:31

Thanks a lot @calimommy - I hope you're enjoying the pregnancy! Are you finding it hard with the pandemic, or not much different?

@MintGreenLife oh no, that sounds so stressful! But good that things are moving ahead. I feel ok today. Took another test/different brand and it was just as pink, so feeling good. I do feel a little bloated and super tired today though. Hope you're doing well x

@Aw326 I as a little anxious at the start but st this point there is enough evidence to suggest that covid doesn't have much of an effect on pregnancy either for mother or baby. Of course there are some cases where mothers become more ill and require treatment but overall not bad. Many pregnant women suffer little to no symptoms. I don't want to catch it regardless -being ill is awful and I recently had a bad head cold which moved into my chest, and it was a good reminder to be vigilant where I can. It's just crummy being unwell and I couldnt take any of the 'good' drugs to help. More importantly though it doesn't seem to impact the baby which is probably most of our concerns. Unfortunately any infection is a risk to a pregnancy, UTIs in particular have a very high risk of miscarriage or later, premature labour, so it is always worth being more careful when pregnant. Get your flu vaccine if you haven't already, the flu can also lead to ICU admissions for pregnant women. I asked my brother (who works in research and is a Dr) to read the data for me and he summarised with the following:

Hey Calimommy! Having read around a bit, it looks like there isn’t any evidence to suggest that COVID-19 has much of an impact on pregnancy. A few summary points:

  • it does seem to be able to transmit vertically (mother to foetus), but there have been no reports of congenital abnormalities)
  • in a case series, only severe COVID-19 was associated with premature birth (more likely induced in order to help the mothers recovery), but it did not cause very premature births (
Aw326 · 11/12/2020 18:06

Thanks @calimommy, this is so helpful to read. I agree, we just have to be careful and get on with things. I didn't want to wait a year or two because of the pandemic. Hopefully in 2021 things will get a bit more under control as vaccines roll out too. Hope you keep enjoying your pregnancy!

@Aw326 I've started small and am just taking 400mg first thing to see how I go, will probably increase to the same as you next cycle. Hope it works for you x
