Just dont give up and keep being persistent. I wish I knew this stuff before but now that I do I am well prepared. Just be aware they (gps) do feel u are trying to tell them what to do and can feel offended.some may disagree with me but whats more important is your health. I did not push for this before but wish I had.

@Iloveoreos thanks so much, you're giving me more confidence about tackling this! My TSH at 3.5 is from a recent blood test done by the GP to investigate why I've been struggling with my cycles since coming off the pill 7 months ago - she said word for word 'everything has come back completely normal'. I only found out about my TSH as I asked for the results, spotted there was a note on the results under TSH saying 'if this patient is pregnancy or planning pregnancy please refer to endocrinology, so I started looking into my result as thought that seemed strange. This was about a month ago now, and I've been on the fence about whether to try and push for help given that my TSH is higher than 2.5, but have been unsure as GP already told me it's normal. I'm not on any medication for my thyroid and never have been, but I think obviously I should push to see if something can be done. I'll call Monday morning x

  • meant if this patient is pregnant, not pregnancy!

@mintgreenlife
Yes you definately should especially that it was wrriten in your comments.use that as proof. Say you have read nice guidelines and as u have been ttc for over a while u want to check just to be sure for reassuarance and take it from there. Trust me..I was in same boat as you few months ago and I would sstrongly advice to go and get them to sort it out. All the best hun xx

I was dismissed over the telephone with tsh of 6 in my third pregnancy but I insisted they see me and I took the nice guidelines to the appointment. In between speaking on the phone and my appointment the dr had researched it herself. I think for some reason lots of GPs don’t seem on top of tsh levels in pregnancy.

Anniemabel · 30/10/2020 18:07

Sorry, you were asking for positive stories - I have hypothyroidism in my third pregnancy and had a healthy child and now have just conceived the 4th.

I didn't see the endocrinologist the first time round but my bloods were checked regularly by my gp/midwife and the GP sent the results to the endocrinologist for advice on dosage. The second time I was referred to a specialist clinic because I had a high BMI and there were endocrinologists at the clinic who treated my thyroid there so I wasn't referred to endocrinologist because of my thyroid but because of my bmi.
