BFP but I haven’t had sex since my last period!

We are trying for a baby after a missed miscarriage in early summer. 17 days ago my period came. It was bang on time, heavy, if anything heavier than usual, if anything lasted longer than normal.

For the past week I have been so nauseated. And I’ve had restless legs. These two things happened in all my previous pregnancies and never when I’m not pregnant. I refused to let myself test as it’s madness, I’m 42 and haven’t had sex since my period, only a crazy lady would test in these circumstances. But tonight I crumbled and tested. And it’s positive.

Has this happened to anyone else? Am I likely properly pregnant or did I miscarry and have residual hormones left? Any similar experiences would be gratefully receive right now.

There is an alternative explanation. This happened to a friend of mine at 43. She was not trying for a baby and thought she was beginning the menopause. She had been careless with contraception. She got pregnant and after 7 weeks had a miscarriage. She told me tbh it was a relief as her other children were 12 and 9. She kept feeling sick and tired and nipples darker. She took another pregnancy test and it was positive. She thought might be residual hormones so just carried on. The nausia went so she forgot about it. A few weeks later though she felt kicking in her stomach. Took a pregnancy test and it was positive. She said she had been super careful with.vonyraception. GP sent her for a scan and she found she was by time of scan 22 weeks pregnant. She was told she.must have been carrying twins and miscarried one but not the other. Baby was fine albeit a shock to family.

Congratulations Flowers The same kind of thing happened to me and I kept having bleeding but lighter and late every month so presumed it was my periods going mad due to my age! I never tested then when the bleeding stopped altogether, I eventually found out I was 12 weeks preg!! I was nearly 41.

Good luck.with your pregnancy x

Hi guys, I know this is an old thread but hope you don’t mind me jumping on! I’m going through something similar. Periods have been all over the place since coming off the pill a few months ago. Had unprotected sex on 25 August (but not since then) and started having pregnancy symptoms a week or so later, including some brown watery spotting for around 4 days (no pain). Was cramping (not really painful) on and off for about 3 and a bit weeks, had two rounds of a cold, some waves of nausea and headaches in that time too. Then I came on what was probably my period on 22 September - 2 days of watery red blood, possibly a clot in the night when I went to the loo but was half asleep, then a day of brown blood which was also watery, then very light brown spitting for a couple of days after. Last couple of days have been back to watery white discharge and the light cramps have been on and off. I’ve also had two occasions when I’ve had sharp pains in my uterus area. I thought I was out because of my period, but now I’m wondering what’s happening. FYI, I had lots of BFNs in the lead up to my period, with no BFPs so far, so pretty sure I’m not pregnant, but have been feeling off do so long that sometimes I feel I might be! @40PlusTTC and @caringcarer were you/was your friend getting BFNs before the BFP? Thanks a lot in advance!
