Hello everyone....I recently started taking pregnancy supplements to prepare to TTC our first baby. I'm 36 years of age. I was just wondering what foods and drinks am I best to avoid or reduce as we're trying to conceive and also into pregnancy?(fingers crossed, pregnancy is the outcome for us🤞🏻) I know during pregnancy I would hopefully get told about this (?!?) however, I did just want to check what other people's advice would be to prepare me? TYIA ☺️

I've given up coffee alcohol and coke! I also don't eat pineapple after ovulation (i usually have a fruit salad for breakfast every day)

You could check out Emma Cannon's Baby Making Bible. You might be able to borrow a copy from your local library.

Peas - or so I’ve read!

Basically it's the same as what you should avoid in pregnancy, have a look at the NHS website. So foods like liver, pate, blue cheese, unpasteurised dairy and ensure all meats are cooked properly.

To help concieve, no smoking, no drugs (limit over the counter ones) and reduce alcohol and caffeine.

I disagree on "the same as what you should avoid in pregnancy" - as those are due to things like listeria and other bacteria harming the foetus and therefore not applicable in TTC. I'm 10 cycles in now and if I had to skip cheeses, patés, steaks etc all this time PLUS the 9 months of pregnancy I'd be a very grumpy lady.

Additionally, someone mentioned not having pineapple after ovulation yet it's a common thing to specifically eat during the LP as it's meant to help with implantation.

Point is - people do whatever the heck they want and the info is often conflicting. Avoid excessive alcohol and coffee, cut out smoking and you should be fine. No need to overthink it.

The suggestion to eat the same as you would in pregnancy, is to protect the foetus before the mother knows she's pregnant. Although with the amount everyone tests its probably not necessary 😂

@xWaterfallx haha yes that's what I figured - those crazy laissez faire ladies that get to 8 weeks before realising - what world do the live in!! Grin. Meanwhile I'm 8DPO and although I'm resisting so far I'm SO conscious that others get BFPs this early already.

xWaterfallx · 22/10/2020 10:10

@Juno231 Lol occasionally you see a story where someone didn't know they were pregnant until they gave birth, no chance of that happening here! Oooh try and hold out at least until 10DPO, ideally 12. Good luck!

Thank you all for your responses! I don't want to try and overthink it as you're right there are lots of conflicting views and I don't want to have to worry too much about it. ☺️
