Baby Aspirin / 75mg Aspirin

Hey everyone,

Random late night thought after going through old threads etc...(as you do!)

I had a Chemical Pregnancy last month at 5 weeks. I've just been reading on here about baby aspirin (75mg to save anyone googling haha) and being taken after miscarriages. I've read 50/50 on this with it helping - possibly more helpful than not actually.

I've got a few questions...

  1. Is this okay to do? Without docs consent?
  1. Has this worked for anyone else?
  1. If it's okay, when do people start taking it - after ovulation or after positive tests?
  1. If you have taken it - how long did you take it for?

I'm not sure everyone agrees with taking it after reading old comments from 2012, but I thought I'd ask as times have changed and recent studies in 2015 shows it's helped!

Thank you 😀

Hello! I’ve been looking into this too and started the below thread yesterday which you may find helpful:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/miscarriage/4050597-Low-dose-aspirin-for-TTC-next-time

From what I’ve read on nhs articles there aren’t any known risks to taking it, but it’s best to wait to take it when you get a positive pregnancy test. It can be taken up to 36 weeks.

I’m going to try to get tested for sticky blood first - called a Antiphospholipid Syndrome Screen (Hughes Syndrome) Blood Test because I’m worried if I take it when I don’t actually need it, if I got injured or something would I have issues with my blood clotting? That’s the only danger I can see.

I’m going to try going down the nhs route but also have an appointment with a private specialist so hoping they will test me.

From what I’ve read it can be very affective, good luck! Xxx

Thank you so much for the response @Cafeaulait27 and the link!

I decided to buy some yesterday and I shall see if I'm luckily enough for a positive test this month!I had an early miscarriage at 5 weeks, last month and currently only on CD12 & normally ovulation is around CD21 as have a 35 days cycle!

Best of luck with the testing!xxx

I think I started taking it just before ovulation. I had a mmc in July and I was desperate to not lose another one without doing any and everything I could do. 4 weeks later I got my bfp and I’m currently 11+1

I can’t say the aspirin helped, & I’ll let my midwife know when I see her next week. It’s made me superstitious though, and I made oh go out late at night when I realised I was out, & couldn’t risk missing one.

I think In hindsight I would’ve spoken to a doctor about it before even starting. I don’t think it’s done me any harm, but also could’ve done sod all.

I was prescribed it after several losses. You begin taking it once your period has finished. The reasoning is that it aids in implantation. I took it daily until 36 weeks. I wasn't advised to take it for either of my following pregnancies.

@Sansa87 @calimommy

Thank you both for your responses and sorry to hear about your losses. I read it can cause issues with implantation so it's good to hear you both have used it sooner rather than later and both become pregnant etc!

I think I'll take my first one today as I'm CD11 and darker ovulation sticks by the day 🤞🏻

Really appreciate the vote of confidence in taking it, nice to hear it's worked or may have contributed to success for you both :)

Oh wow that’s great, I didn’t think it helped implantation, as I thought it was just to help blood get to the foetus.

I have bought some and might start taking it once I start ovulating again.

Did you take 75mg or 150mg @Sansa87 @calimommy ?

calimommy · 16/10/2020 16:11

@Cafeaulait27 there are different reasons for taking aspirin, the dose and frequency. For example in the instance of recurrent early loss there is evidence to suggest that it helps facilitate implantation. If you take it at a later stage of pregnancy it is as an anticoagulant/clot prevention, and in other instances it is used to prevent preeclampsia. Obviously a Dr will determine if/when it would be necessary as there is also a risk of bleeding. In my instance I took the low dose 75mg.

Sansa87 · 16/10/2020 16:13

I take 75mg which Tesco sell next to the paracetamol

Cafeaulait27 · 16/10/2020 16:52

Ah cool thanks ☺️ I think for me it’ll be for coagulation, but I need to find out once I’ve spoken to my specialist.

I always struggle with blood tests and bad circulation, which makes me wonder even more if I do have ‘sticky blood’.
