GP told me as long as I have periods, I'm ovulating. Is that correct?

I wanted to make sure I was ovulating so I can conceive. He said as long as I'm having periods, I'll be ovulating for sure. Is they true?!

Not strictly, it's assumed you'd be ovulating if you have regular cycles but the only way to know for sure is a blood test. I have no idea if they'd do this for you for reassurance or if you'd have to go through the 6/12 month wait of TTC (depending on your age). Sorry that isn't very helpful

Nope. You may be having anovulatory periods. Context?

MrsBlobby43 · 14/10/2020 20:26

No that's incorrect. I used to have horrendous period pains but after investigation only on the months I ovulated.

KellyF29 · 14/10/2020 20:32

I did think he was talking BS! I have regular periods but for the last two cycles I've had horrendous pains. We've only started ttc so I just wanted to check everything was all okay

You can buy ovulation sticks or check your temps to track for ovulation.

sarahc336 · 14/10/2020 20:54

No this is not true, it's a good indicator but you can have a cycle and not ovulate abs still bleed. To confirm ovulation you need a blood test around day 21 to check your progesterone levels as only after you ovulate will then increase. Your gp is being a bit lazy simply telling you this, request the blood test if you have concerns xx

You could try charting BBT if your GP won't do bloods for you yet x

ellenpartridge · 14/10/2020 21:39

Not true at all. I would also really recommend BBT to track your cycle. You could use something like Ovusense which is very easy to use and once you know when you've ovulation, if you have, you can get progesterone bloods done at 7dpo to confirm. Good luck.

Wrong I'm afraid. Push for a day 21 blood test which can check ovulation.
