Thought DTD around ovulation would do the trick? Where am I going wrong?!

Hello!
I am about to start Cycle 2 TTC #1. On cycle 1 I made sure we had lots of sex around ovulation which was confirmed by a OPK. I had all the symptoms but kept getting BFN & then AF. In heart broken and confused. Where have I gone wrong?! Is there something wrong with me?! I'm 27 & BMI of 30, need to lose a stone. Apart from that I'm healthy, don't drink or smoke. OH already had one child so I know he's alright! He's only 31 and in good working order. I feel a failure!! Help!

It can take a normal healthy couple up to a year to conceive. You only have around a 30% chance each cycle max when you time DTD perfectly, so completely normal to DTD right on time and still not conceive, it may just take a few goes ☺️

Early days for you. I have had sex every single day around ovulation for over a year OP and moreover have been trying but sometimes missing ovulation due to partner's work for 2 years. I'm afraid it is a lot more complicated than just having sex for lots of people. Recommended reading includes It Starts with the Egg. I have also discovered getting pregnant and staying pregnant are two different things as well.

Of course lots of people can pregnant within 6 months at your age but I think it is only about 25% per month of those having regular sex.

What PP have said! Have a read through ttc threads etc and you'll get an idea that they all dtd around ovulation time and that it takes people different lengths of time to conceive.
Hope it doesn't take too long for you OP. However it's perfectly normal for couples to take up to a year ttc.
(Or in my case 2.5 years and that was unexplained infertility)

Interesting thanks everyone. We DTD every other day and then everyday during the fertile window. Will have to keep trying!

So many factors affect ttc, for example some months you may not even ovulate, the sperm just might not be in the right place at the right time if you ovulate later or earlier than you thought, maybe the egg is fertilised but it just doesn't implant or it does implant but it wasn't a good combination of egg abs sperm so it doesn't grow or maybe it implants in the wrong place etc etc that's why it can take up to 12 months in healthy couples. Ttc is really a journey and it's best to accept it will just take time as it takes the pressure out of it Smile good luck xx

I'm 6 months into TTC our first, am 32 and BMI is 21, never smoked etc, these things can just take some time for some of us, sure there's nothing to worry about and it'll happen for you with time x

In the nicest possible way you need to calm down. One month ttc and being heartbroken it hasn’t worked is ott. You will drive yourself crazy if you keep thinking like this. It took me 18months of regular sex and eventually thinking we’d probably have to go down the IVF route. For others it takes a month, a year, 5years. There’s nothing ‘wrong’ with any of these people.

The past 2 cycles I've managed to DTD on the 2 days before and ovulation day without any luck. We are trying to be casual and Hope it happens soon. Trying not to over think it at the moment which is soo hard to do. We're made to think unprotected sex will lead to pregnancy during school but in reality it's so much harder.

Also just noted you said ovulation was 'confirmed' by an OPK, however it is possible to get a positive OPK and not ovulate. Only way to confirm ovulation is by charting BBT, but as it's early days would suggest just DTD every other day for now x

It's actually only ever around a 25% chance of conception. It's utterly normal for it to take 6-12 months as the odds are against conception.
