Is it wrong to TTC?

I have Autism. It barely bothers me, but as I am coming to consider TTC it raises the ethical question: is it fair to my future child to run the risk of them potentially having autism? I want a baby so bad, but what if he/she suffers? Any parents gone through this or similar thought processes?

I'm autistic and I'm TTC at the moment. I wasn't diagnosed until I was an adult and have managed fairly well undiagnosed and now diagnosed.

It's likely heriditary but not 100% and I've got plenty of positive genetic traits that balance everything out. It's possible that I could conceive a child with a physical disability - nothing in this life is certain.

You're right, that's a good way of putting things. I was only recently diagnosed myself, funny how that works out! It is definitely hereditary in my family, two of my cousins have it also.

My situation is slightly unusual in that I'm conceiving with a donor. As far as I know there are no genetic health issues on his side. Who knows what the baby will inherit from each of us. Most people go in hoping that their children inherit the best parts of each parent but I think I could make a strong case that some of my autistic traits are actually strengths so it's not as black and white as saying autistic = bad.

Do you consider yourself a burden to society and others? I'll guess not.

Sorry hadn't finished my post!
What I mean is, the responsibility lies with you to raise a child which you conceive (or adopt). If you feel able to provide care and love, then why not?
