Hey all

I had two very early losses (chemical pregnancies) this year.

I had informed my doctor who did some blood work. I got the results back today, I’m told everything is normal including thyroid as that was tested. I’m not anaemic either, I had mentioned I’ve had iron deficiency anaemia to my doc so that was checked too.

I asked what happens next and she has referred me to gynaecology which could take a few months. She also mentioned progesterone... she was debating whether she should check mines but said as I have managed to fall pregnant it meant I am ovulating so it doesn’t need to be checked.

I’m just providing all this info so anyone in a similar situation can guide me, does this all sound okay? Is there anything else I should be pushing for or asking to get checked/tested?

Also does the progesterone thing make sense?

I hope it’s just been bad luck rather than something wrong with me x

Hi there the GP’s don’t tend to look to far into these things. The concern with progesterone is that you’re not production enough post ovulation. You can have weak ovulation where you ovulate but then your body doesn’t produce enough progesterone to maintain a pregnancy. They usually won’t look any further into this until 3 losses which is awful I know, and fertility doesn’t seem to be high on the NHS priority list just now due to Covid. If you don’t want to wait until your referral you can order progesterone finger prick tests to do at home. They need to be done on day 21 of your cycle if you have a 28 day cycle or 7 days before your period is due. Medichecks were good for me I think it’s about £40 for the test. This could help put your mind at rest or if not and there is an issue it would give you something to discuss with your fertility doctor once you do get referred. Ideally you want a result over 30nmol (over 40 is even better) to confirm that you’re ovulating and producing enough progesterone
