At my whits end now!! :(

Hello,

Unsure if this is the right corner of Mumsnet to be posting but I thought I'd give it a go, I'm really at my whits end with everything now and need some advice

I came off the pill December 2019, and since then I got my first real period in March, one in May, and one in July. I'm now awaiting the next one, my dr isn't concerned because I seem to be having a bleed every other month and she keeps saying to give it more time, but I'm certain something is wrong and my irregular periods is down to something else, I'm also overweight and I have been on a diet and exercise plan for a month now and lost nothing, I'm now starting to wonder if it's linked? Could my hormones be stopping me losing weight?

Maybe worth noting, when I was 15 (23 now) I had cysts all over my ovaries and was off school with so much pain for a long time, they eventually went away and I've never had them since but should I mention this to the dr?

I just don't know what to do and every time I speak to my dr I just get told to wait longer, but we want to try for baby when I get my weight down a bit, but I can't seem to do it, and my periods are so irregular it's going to make trying so so so hard

Thanks to anyone who has read this, just looking for some help :( what do I do?

That's good to hear. Always best to know, whatever it is 😊 All the best!

mrsgtobe97 · 02/10/2020 09:32

Don't know if anyone is still following, I'm just so upset right now, after 4 weeks of hard dieting and exercise I have not lost 1lb and my period has been AWHOL for 90 days now. Also have acne that won't shift! I'm just so sick of this and not being taken seriously, I've been crying all morning, I have a phone consult with dr on Monday and I just hope they can give me something because I'm so sick of this now 😭

😟 I'm so sorry you're finding it hard. I absolutely understand your frustration! Sometimes bodies are assholes. Stick with it if you can (maybe be a bit kinder to yourself too!) And hopefully you will see a difference. Are you taking your measurements as well? I'd definitely recommend this 🙂 waist and hips if nothing else! You might see inches change before the scales drop?
I've started taking Myo inositol this cycle to see if it helps with my PCOS/skin/cycles!

Thank you, I got myself into quite a state this morning because I just feel like nothing I do works and I don't eat enough to weigh as much as I am! I eat the same as my 11 stone fiancé and I'm nearly 16 stone and do more exercise! Funny you mentioned the myo-inositol as ive just ordered it to try. I've also done more research and found that HIIT workouts can sometimes put too much stress on the body and low impact is recommended, so going to try low carb and low impact exercise. I just want to lose the weight and have a period every 4 weeks 😪

That's interesting re. Low impact exercise! I'll keep that in mind when exercising 😊 although don't tend to do too intense a workout as I've got a bad hip 🙄 I'm only 30 but my hip must be 50.
Ugh. My husband will only gain weight if we go on holiday but then loses it again a week later by reverting back to normal eating. I always joke that even being near a doughnut can make me gain weight, but it's not far off! I've tracked both mine and hubby's calories and he gets away with eating almost twice the amount I do! So it's so hard when he can eat treats and takeaways and takes a lot of willpower not to join in (writing this down has made me realise where I've been going wrong recently as I've gotten far less strict with myself!).
The thing is that pcos can really damage your metabolism so other people will get away with eating much more and not suffering for it.
Will you think about taking your measurements? It might really help you see a difference 🙂 all you need is a little positive to give you a boost as it can feel so relentless when nothing is going the way you want it to.
Did you get a powder or tablet form of Myo? I've got high hopes for it, and figure it's worth a go!

Yeh it's so unfair! I've been working my butt off for so long and to not have lost anything I'm so confused HmmYeah I took my measurements on 25.09 so will take them on 25.10 see if there's a difference 😊 I got the capsules off of amazon, I'm so hoping they help, I'm desperate & I'll try anything at this point!

Well I'll be rooting for you and looking forward to hearing how you get on! Are you weighing yourself often? I tend to weigh myself on a Saturday and I've really slacked off lately.

HerringGull · 02/10/2020 19:35

I really really hope it works for you both so well as for me. I've got all my fingers and toes crossed for you! I think it took two or three months to begin to see the effects so stick at it 😊 Hope you're okay @Mrsgtobe It's so tough. Lots of love x

mrsgtobe97 · 05/10/2020 11:43

Spoke to my dr and going for more bloods on Wednesday, and also getting referred for another scan. She did say it was a possibility of PCOS and the pill had masked it, I so hope I get some answers 🤞🏼 if nothing comes of it she did mention speaking to the clinic about it so I'm assuming that would be a referral

OP posts:
MrsKin90 · 05/10/2020 16:38

That's really positive! I'm glad they're willing to do tests and at least explore the possibility of PCOS. 🤞 I hope you don't have it as it isn't exactly thrilling, but sometimes I think anything is better than not knowing why things are a bit wonky.
Hope you're getting on alright so far with the Myo inositol! I've changed from taking it all on the morning to 2g in the morning and 2g after work. I wasn't sure if I was having a few side effects but might also just be coincide as it doesn't feel like long enough to have any as it's only been a few days! 😊

Yeah I'm glad it's moving forward, i mentioned my weight aswell struggling to lose weight so they're going to check blood sugar etc aswell. I know I don't want to have it but I'd like to know where my period is 🤣 first day taking the myo, I read somewhere it may take 3 months to see results, so I'm hoping something happens! Just got to keep at the healthy eating and exercising! I'm also going to try the keto diet and see if that helps as I did eat a lot of carbs!

MrsKin90 · 05/10/2020 18:40

How long has your period been missing now?? Hopefully it turns up soon!
You're right re. The three months -as Herringull said, 😊 but I've also seen people have started periods not long after starting myo. Could be coincidence of course!
Definitely keep going! Is your partner supportive?
I'd never manage keto! I can do low carb, but I'd die if I did keto 😇

Today is cycle day 83 😂 longest one yet.. I heard about some people having break through bleeds on it after a week so I'm hoping that's me 😂 yeah he has been doing it for a few weeks so it's more me joining him now so it helps 😊 I hate it so far but I want to know if it will work! Definitely won't be a long term thing but if it kicks off my weight loss I'm not complaining 🥰

Ahh I really hope your period comes soon! Usually I wish for BFPs for people so weird to be hoping for the opposite 😂 are you continuing with DTD just in case an egg appears without warning? 😊 Always a chance you might catch then!
Glad to hear you're not in it on your own! I'm excited to hear how you get on.

mrsgtobe97 · 11/10/2020 00:21

Bloods have come back normal.. wtf.. cycle day 88 and no period, dr said they can't make my period come so what the hell happens now?! Ugh, how are you meant to try for a baby with it like this!

@mrsgtobe97 oh no! (But hooray no PCOS?).
I'm sorry you've not been given any answers. It's absolute rubbish that they can't force a period - there's medication that they can prescribe for exactly that purpose? I'm also a believer in:the more you stress the longer it takes, when it comes to getting your period. I know it's ridiculous to say, but try to keep as calm and relaxed as you can. I'd be going back at day 90 saying you're not happy to go more than that without a period and ask for some medication.
☹️ I'm so sorry though. Any progress with weight loss/measurements/any spotting from the Myo inositol?

Haven't taken any measurements but also haven't gained any weight as got weighed at dr's which is good maybe even lost a lb💪🏼 just glad my weight isn't going up higher! We are away the week after next just in the UK so imagine that won't help weight loss but we need the time away, after having our wedding postponed twice 😂 also no bleeding with inositol unfortunately, has anything happened with you?

MrsKin90 · 12/10/2020 09:24

Not gaining weight is a good start!! 😊 You can always try to make sensible choices on holiday but make sure you enjoy it! We had a little break away to Torquay and it honestly did my frame of mind the world of good.
My period turned up on CD51. No idea if that was the Myo (which I'd only been taking for about three days I think?) Or if I'd ovulated super late.
I'm on CD15 again now. Waiting to see if I O this cycle. I read some horror stories about how coq10, which I also started taking at the start of my last cycle, can increase the length of your cycle and Myo can shorten it... So wonder if I'll end up with my 'normal' long cycle of 35-40 days?? Which I wouldn't complain about at obviously. Maybe you'll be so relaxed on your holiday you'll ovulate? 😊 🤞🤞

mrsgtobe97 · 13/12/2020 08:51

Just want to update this so if anyone reads this in the future it's helpful!!

So I recently had a 111 day cycle that ended on the 4th November with me finally getting a period!! I have only had 5 periods this year including this one that's coming right now. I think all the supplements I tried like isonitol etc didn't help and just made me worse. I definitely wouldn't mess with anything unless you have a diagnosis from the doctors, incase your body is just taking a bit extra time to regulate.

Since then, I have been using easy@home ovulation tests and the Premom app and tried my best to keep myself calm as could be, walked for an hour everyday and just looked after myself. On cycle day 28 I OVULATED!! 🥰 and now on cycle day 38&39 I have been spotting and AF is due tomorrow, which makes it a 40 day cycle.

It's still not perfect as I would love for it to be a 28 day cycle but 40 is still in the realm of normal if it is regular I believe, I now just hope my next one is the same and it makes it so much easier for us TTC.

This normal cycle happened exactly a year after I stopped the pill, so I just want everyone to know who has come off the pill and is wondering why they're having long irregular cycles and no periods to just not worry. I had every worry imaginable in my head that I was infertile, was never going to get a period etc and would need IVF or need to adopt. I think my body just needed a full year to reset, I'm now so much more hopeful & it's the best early Christmas present ever!

Oh and I finally managed to ovulate in my 111 day cycle when I went away on holiday and relaxed, I think my body was so stressed about it that it wasn't helping at all

@mrsgtobe97 That's good news. Just out of interest what was checked when you had blood tests done?

Did they check your thyroid? Struggling to lose weight and irregular periods are very common for people with thyroid conditions.

evenmoreforthemoor · 13/12/2020 16:20

You really, really need a scan to check your ovaries.
