Should I start my aspirin?

Hello

Had two chemical pregs this year, I’m now thinking of starting low dose aspirin.

My only question is, should I start now (fertile week) or once I get a BFP.

I’m conflicted, some people take it while trying to conceive and others take it once they find out they are pregnant.

I need to know if taking it now may actually help me achieve a BFP and then hopefully one that sticks x

I took it from ovulation with my dd and with this one I'm (30 weeks).

CalmDown7 · 23/09/2020 09:27

@chubbyhotchoc - what was your reason for taking it if you don’t mind me asking? I really want to start taking it this week as I’m going to ovulate any day now.

However, I’m worried it may interfere with implantation?

According to my two chemical pregnancies I fear implantation is not succeeding as I always bleed the day my period would be due after getting a bfp for a week straight prior.

I’m conflicted 😐

I started it from CD21 of my last cycle and I'm now 7 weeks pregnant and still taking it. I've had 2 miscarriages before and this is the furthest a pregnancy had ever got!

I would have started at ovulation but I was having CD21 days bloods taken as part of initial fertility investigations and didn't want to affect the results (dunno if it would have!). I read that taking it in your luteal period helps build up a good thick uterine lining.

@CalmDown7 before I had my dd I had 4/5 chemical pregnancies. I was literally getting positive tests every month. Took aspirin from ovulation and had dd. Then I got pregnant again last November, didn't take aspirin as thought my body would know what to do having had a baby but I had a missed miscarriage at 11 weeks. Tried again and took the 150 mg aspirin this time. It may all just be coincidence as there is some research to suggest Chemical pregnancies and miscarriages are actually common in women who are very fertile and early testing has a lot to answer for tbh.

CalmDown7 · 23/09/2020 10:56

@Semele5069 - thanks for replying! If you don’t mind me asking where did you buy it from? And is there a specific time of day you’re taking it?

Did you wait until you had ovulated and then start taking it?

My pregnancies seem to end exactly when I’d start my period, I don’t even make it to 4 weeks. I have a feeling this may help them reach further. I want to feel like I’m doing something as docs can’t really do much at this stage for me.

Research shows that taking aspirin at night is most effective. They don’t know exactly why, but this is now the current advice from the NHS. It’s shown to be more effective at reducing sticky blood, stroke and heart attack - I’m assuming that it is the anti platelet effect of aspirin that you want. I took mine at 9pm.

I have APS so following 3 miscarriages pre diagnosis, I was put on 150mg aspirin every night from the last day of my period immediately following diagnosis. I was pregnant that cycle, given enexoparin from the day of my positive test and rainbow arrived 2 weeks ago.

Wishing you every bit of luck xxx

@CalmDown7 I take mine at night as another poster has said. For a while I couldn't find any 75mg ones anywhere so was just quartering normal strength tablets, but now I've found a little shop near me that sells these.

Home bargains and savers sell the 75mg if you have any of those near. You can also get them in your local pharmacy sometimes. Dispersible or coated is fine. I take mine before bed

I’ve just had a second miscarriage- this time was almost a chemical as happened a week after my period was due, last time was a missed miscarriage managed at 10 weeks. I may start on the aspirin too just in case... this is really helpful!

Isareeya · 23/09/2020 12:37

Just to be sure @CalmDown7, have you been diagnosed with APS?

The reason I say this is because there are other causes of miscarriage which are far more common then APS.

CalmDown7 · 23/09/2020 13:55

@Isareeya - sorry what’s APS? I haven’t been diagnosed with anything yet. Doc has just done some routine bloods for me and at this stage I don’t think there is much else they will do? I’ve had two chemicals this year and want to start aspirin in the hope it may help whatever it is that needs helping inside me. My pregnancies don’t seem to be implanting well or fully. I’m not sure as I’m no doctor, all I know is a lot of online material says it’s harmless to take so I thought why not?

I’m just struggling on a decision, should I take it after ovulation or wait for a bfp to take it x

My local savers has them available, going to pick some up and then start taking them either when I get a bfp or this week as which is my fertile week. Not decided yet

Some info on APS here. Aspirin + heparin is generally recommended, but yes, you may want to see a proper Specialist to test for this.

Has your OH had a sperm analysis done?

I say this because in IVF, it is very common to see embryo's not make it past the 3 day mark after fertilization, when the sperm quality is low.

Hope that helps a little.

Can taking rentinol (vitamin a) cause a miscarriage?
