Colonoscopy and early pregnancy?

I'm unsure when I ovulated it's if I'm about to. #ttc1 and we were going to wait until at had been on Oct 4th but then we realised we had dtd on Sunday and if fertility friend is correct then I'll have been in my fertile week this week so we may well be on the way to having a sticky one! My worry now is that I've been booked in for a colonoscopy on 3rd October and at is due on 4th October... will they test me at the hospital on the day do you think and will they go ahead if I'm pregnant? I'm nervous as I need the scope done but I'd rather have a positive pregnancy test

omg this is so weird, I'm also having a colonoscopy and was thinking the same thing today! Mine's a day before yours, 2nd October. I'm 3po right now so by my calculations I'll either be pregnant or on my period at the time of the procedure. Hoping the outcome is a positive one for both of us! x

It's safe to have the treatment whilst pregnant if it's necessary to have the cells removed. They'd probably prefer to be on the safe side and remove the cells xx

sarahc336 · 17/09/2020 21:20

Sorry sorry I read this as a colposcopy for the removal of abnormal cells after a smear but your saying a colonoscopy which I assume is different. I can only comment on the abnormal smear type test which they say is safe xx

@Nam095 ahh journey twins!! I stupidly googled and it gave me conflicting info 🤦🏻‍♀️ some days that a pregnancy test is taken and others say it's not, suppose it'll depend on individual hospital. My gp would probably humour me and blood test me if they were open to face to face appointments but they're not which is why I'm stressing a bit.

@sarahc336 Thankyou for commenting though! I appreciate the time you took

They will give you a pregnancy test before the procedure. They will ask when you LMP was and you can volunteer that you could be pregnant, they will probably test anyway.

Nam095 · 19/09/2020 06:45

@SparklePrincesss yes exactly! I couldn’t find definitive info online! I had a colonoscopy last year but I wasn’t ttc to then. I don’t remember them asking me if I could be pregnant or volunteering to take a pregnancy test though 🤔 I think I might ring them a few days before just to check

minnie465 · 19/09/2020 07:08

I had one a couple of weeks ago and they did a pregnancy test and wanted date of LMP. I think they need to know as it may affect what sedation they can give you.

Isareeya · 19/09/2020 08:36

Obviously this is something that they can not ethically test with a clinical trial.

However retrospectives studies do indicate that their is no difference in either pregnancy outcomes or the mothers health.

You have the option of undergoing the procedure without any sedation but it is uncomfortable, like 6/10.

Any chance you can bring the date forward? Or be put on the waiting list if any last minute cancellations come in?

Hope all goes well anyway for both the colonoscopy and the little egg.

Halo

Hey! I had my colonoscopy today, I ended up getting AF on Monday. All went well. But again I wasn’t asked at all about when my last period was or if I could be pregnant. I guess it depends on where you have it done. Have you tested yourself at all? Good luck for tomorrow @SparklePrincesss x

SparklePrincesss · 02/10/2020 19:20

@Nam095 Thankyou for letting me know! Af arrived on Tuesday and I'm currently in the prep now 🙃🤪🙈😬🤢

Were you sore for long after? How soon could you eat properly without it affecting you? I'm already dreaming of chewing food 🙈🤣

@SparklePrincesss ah sorry to hear AF arrived! Yeah the prep wasn’t nice at all but wasn’t as bad I expected 😅

I wasn’t sore down there at all after but I had stomach cramps from the wind so that was a bit uncomfortable, lasted for a few hours but I ate within that time but was still very gassy and stomach gurgling a lot. I’m now 9 hours since I came out from the procedure and the cramps/gas/gurgling has stopped now, I had a nice big dinner tonight haha!

Fingers crossed everything goes well for you and you get some good news ☺️
