Chemical pregnancy - What did you doctor do?

Hello

Currently having my second chemical pregnancy. Had one back in March and again this month.

Devastated beyond words, didn’t think it would happen again to be honest.

What did your doctor prescribe you or do to help your future pregnancy stick? Is there something they can give you to help? Or even those that haven’t fell pregnant yet and are trying, what did the doctor advise after your chemical?

Thanks

Hi I don’t have much answers for you but the same thing has happened to me I had a chemical in June and another in August I haven’t contacted my doctor as I have heard they don’t do anything until you have had 3 or more would also l like to hear what could be done if it happens again

Meme69 · 11/09/2020 23:14

My doctor referred me to the recurrent miscarriage clinic after my third. On the day of my appointment I found out I was having a mmc.

Meme69 · 11/09/2020 23:15

Sorry I forgot to say, she prescribed me baby aspirin daily.

@CalmDown7 so sorry to hear what you are going through. I had a chemical last year and a MC at 7 weeks on July. Although it was only my second my doctor referred me to the recurrent miscarriage clinic and I have received my telephone appointment today for the 18th September. Maybe speak to your dr and see if there is anything they can do now you’ve had 2? Xx

Siobhano88 · 11/09/2020 23:21

@Itisme90 although you’ve only had 2 they may still refer you. I’ve only had 2 and my dr referred me. 🤞🏻 For you xx

The first time the GP referred me to the EPU for a scan, which just confirmed the miscarriage. The second time (at the start of lockdown) I got a phone appointment, mainly just to have it on my medical record. She said then that there is nothing she can advise I do differently and it is most likely just bad luck, but to let her know asap when I'm pregnant again and if it happens again she'll refer me for investigations. I know that sounds really unhelpful but she was lovely and actually very reassuring! I've since got pregnant again. Very early stages, only 6 weeks so still not feeling confident. I've started taking baby aspirin myself after reading stories on here.

@Semele5069 sorry you have been through this too it’s a lot more common that I thought I haven’t informed my gp yet but I am just starting my 2WW and if I get another BFP I think I will contact my gp I have also stated taking low dose aspirin as I have read it helps on here too will see what happens

CalmDown7 · 12/09/2020 09:45

@Meme69 - did the aspirin help? How much did you take and how long did you have to take it for? Did your doc give it right away?

@Itisme90 - how much aspirin are you taking? Was it prescribed? I’m thinking of doing the same, going to speak to the doc first though.

@Semele5069 - how much are you taking? Are you taking it off your own back? I’m thinking of starting it but don’t know how much to take etc. Will speak to the doc first but in case they don’t agree with it.

I started bleeding around 4 and a half weeks. Gp referred me to epu but epu just spoke to me over the phone and told me not to come in. This was after 7 months of ttc. 2 cycles later I got pregnant again and I'm now 10 weeks.

ivfbeenbusy · 12/09/2020 09:56

Honestly the doctors won't do anything. You'd need a referral to a recurrent miscarriage clinic. I was referred to one and they refused to give aspirin and progesterone. Found them pretty useless all round so went to an IVF clinic instead

You also shouldn't take aspirin yourself unless you have a confirmed medical need as it can actually cause miscarriage rather than prevent it

Itisme90 · 12/09/2020 10:10

@CalmDown7 I have just started taking a really low does just 75mgs of aspirin I seen someone on here say it worked for them so I asked my cousin who is a midwife and she said it wouldn’t do any harm as such a low dose but could potentially help with thickening the lining of my womb for implantation

CalmDown7 · 12/09/2020 10:39

@Itisme90 - at what point did you start taking baby aspirin? Where did you get it from?

Itisme90 · 12/09/2020 10:47

I just started taking them yesterday I ovulated yesterday so think it might be a little late in taking them but just giving it a go I got them from savers they were only 79p are you think of trying them I also have been taking folic acid & vitamin D tablets for a few months

CalmDown7 · 12/09/2020 10:53

@Itisme90 - I’m going to speak to doc next week and run it by her, but yes I want to take baby aspirin to prevent another early loss. If it can maximise the chances for a sticky pregnancy then would love to do anything I could to help. I feel helpless just doing nothing.

@Itisme90 - I have a local savers, what section were they in? Would you be so kind to take a picture of them so I can know what I’m looking for? Thanks

I know this is different but my IVF clinic say to not take baby aspirin after transfer (so essentially during the two week wait) but I think she said I could start again after positive pregnancy test (although I think that's for blood pressure reasons). No idea why! So do your research so you take it at the right time as you don't want to do more harm than good.

Meme69 · 12/09/2020 11:15

The doctor didn't give me aspirin, she told me to buy it over the counter. She ordered tests to see if I needed it, but said it wouldn't hurt to take it in the meantime. I've still not had the test results back so I've no idea if I need to take it still but I am.

Itisme90 · 12/09/2020 12:34

They were just in the medication section I will post a picture
