Extremely quick LH surge??

Hi all

Still trying to figure out opks

I tested this morning and got a low reading on clear blue digital but from trying boots opks last month I thought I was potentially going to ovulate today (CD10).

Tested again this evening with clearblue and boots OPK and they both said "peak"

Would it really go that quickly from low to peak, I.e. no high fertility reading at all??

Hi OP, yes the LH surge can be that quick Smile but don't worry, you will ovulate in the next 12-48 hours so you haven't missed your chance. Keep DTD and good luck!

Thankyou @Kay00 !!
Was just shocked it was so quick!!

Time to get down to business!!

Indeed! Grin mine are this quick too... in fact I have missed the last two months positive OPKs. I only know I ovulated as I'm tracking BBT.

It depends how sensitive the OPKS are - like pregnancy tests some are less so. Clearblue reacts to LH hormone 5 times the previous reading therefore it could be that you've detected the LH surge right at the beginning- lots of people ovulate within 36 hours of that surge but some people can have a surge lasting up to 4 days before they ovulate

I continue to test with the cheap test strips to monitor how long you continue to get a peak reading - don't bother continuing with clearblue as you'll throw the test holder out and won't get an accurate reading

@ivfbeenbusy thanks for the tip! I will keep going with the cheapies to see how long it lasts.
@Kay00 I used only cheapies for about 12 days of last month to try and find my ovulation date as I suspected I was ovulating early in my 28 day cycle. It detected 48% high on CD10 but then dropped down to 16% high CD11 and i never caught a peak at all, it went straight to 0% CD12 until stopped testing CD20.

Also am I right in thinking I can no longer use that clearblue holder again since it got a peak reading and I would have to get a new pack? Bit annoying as i have only used 2 tests 😂

@Twylar

You can reuse the test holder - in fact you're supposed to as the more you use it the more it becomes better as predicting your specific cycle

Bizarrely the test strips are actually more expensive to produce than the test holder which is why you can't buy just the sticks (well not the dual hormone purple ones anyway) on their own and always get a new holder in the box 🤷‍♀️

I swore by clearblue digital OPKs but after using them for years and cringing at the cost I swapped to the cheap strips (also my IVF clinic won't let you use digital OPKs as they say they can be late in detecting the surge) - I downloaded an app - Premom and you take a photo of the strip in the app and it tells you whether it's low/high/peak and plots the photos side by side and does a nice graph (I'm geeky that I like that kind of thing 🤣) so essentially gives you the same information as clearblue at a fraction of the cost

@ivfbeenbusy I'm using the femometer app and I love the data you get from it aswell😂 so interesting! Wish we did this at school lol
