Hi @queenqueenqueen 😊

Yes me! I’d love to hear more about your story... I’m due to start ttc this month for the first time so a little worried!
I had a blood test a few weeks ago just to check levels (advised by my GP) and my numbers were high so I’ve had my dosage upped. Hoping it settles in time as I’ve heard levels need to be lower than usual to successfully conceive?

Hi, thanks for replying!

What are your levels now? Xx

I had a MC 2 years ago, think probably caused by undiagnosed thyroid issues 😭 and been trying ever since. My levels seemed to under control but last test they'd gone haywire again and periods/cycles still all over the place.

I was diagnosed after my DS was born. I'm so convinced that I had an under active thyroid while we were TTC with him though. It took us 18 months and we had tests and went to the doctor and had an appointment with the fertility clinic and finally fell naturally. I was put on levothyroxine a couple of months after he was born. When we decided to try for another I was all geared up for a long road but it happened first month. I'm so sure it's because my thyroid levels are now right. It's definitely worth having them checked and making sure they're where they should be

I found that my GP doesn't know a right lot about the thyroid. Once you get pregnant you need to up your dose and book a blood test, my GP upped mine by 50mcg. The midwife does seem to have more of an idea of what my levels should be which is good

Good luck TTC!

@queenqueenqueen I think my TSH was around 6 but I was only on 50mcg so been upped to 75 now. The reason I first got diagnosed was because of heavy periods but they’ve never gone away even after starting on Levothyroxine so I’ve always been nervous that it may have an impact on my fertility. I’m expecting it to be a long road ahead, so trying not to get my hopes up any time soon.

Oh I’m so sorry to hear about your MC.. I really hope your levels stabilise soon. It’s crazy how big an impact the thyroid can have on every part of your body, I never realised it myself until it happened but take care of yourself. TTC must be stressful enough without the tiredness and achiness and everything else that happens while your levels aren’t right.

@grandmasterstitch ah some really useful tips here, thank you! My GP has asked me to test again in three months so will see what the levels look like then but hoping they have stabilised in time for starting ttc next week! 🤞

On ahopeful note: I had undiagnosed underactive thyroid (only picked up when pregnant) and managed to fall pregnant easily x2 without planning it too much. It does make a person feel wiped out sometimes.

queenqueenqueen · 10/09/2020 19:46

My levels are largely under control I'm aiming for less than 2.5 and they were 🎉 but then at my last test had gone up again 😔😔 not by much but obviously just crap news x

@queenqueenqueen I hope you don’t mind me asking how you’re getting on?
I was diagnosed with under active thyroid at the beginning of this year having been trying to conceive for over a year. I’ve started on levothyroxine now and waiting for another set of bloods to see if it’s helping. But keen to hear how it’s worked/working for others.

I was unsuccessfully TTC for 12 months. Went to the Dr expecting fertility problems. To my surprise it was hypothyroid. 12 months after taking meds I finally fell pregnant.
That baby is 16 this month. Just keep going 🤞🏻

Can I join this thread please.
I'm 33yrs. We are TTC #2. 2 weeks ago I asked the doctor for a blood test as I've been feeling so tired and run down for about 6 months and because we are TTC I wanted to check, I put it down to being in lockdown, and also thought it may be my iron levels low. Have previously have 2mc.
They checked for my thyroid levels too which came out low. I've been put on levethyroxine but not really any other advice has been given to me from the doctor apart from they will check it again in 6 weeks.
Interested to know how long it took for your levels to go back up once on the medication.
If you have an under active thyroid, were you ovulating before the medication? Sorry for all of the questions, just gearing myself up for a long wait in the TTC journey! x

Halftime23 · 09/02/2021 17:37

@DinosaurDiana this is so great to know - and congratulations!
@BWaiting I’m right there with you - I was just given meds and told to get re-tested in 6 weeks. But I’m only on 25mcg so would imagine it will need to go up based on what I’ve read. I’ve also spoken to two GPS, the first said to stop ttc, the second said to ignore the first. So for now we are carrying on, knowing that we need to tell the GP as soon as we conceive (although it’s been over a year so I’m also expecting a long journey).
I’ve been ovulating and my cycles are like clockwork so I was surprised about my thyroid levels (although the cold intolerance, exhaustion, slow heart rate, dry skin are all symptoms for me).

BWaiting · 09/02/2021 19:16

@Halftime23 I'm on the same dose as you. She didn't say how low it was but just that it was on the low side....which isn't very helpful and because I wasn't expecting it, I didn't really know what questions to ask!
I told her we were TTC and she didn't tell me not to, so I'm carrying on.
I had the cold intolerance so bad, I just thought it was winter but my mum keeps telling me that it's not normal to be sat INSIDE every single heater in the house.
Good luck with your journey, really hope this helps and you get your BFP!!

queenqueenqueen · 11/02/2021 21:19

Hi there thanks for replying
Unfortunately no good news for me here 😒 my thyroid levels seem undercontrol but since further tests I have found out I am not ovulating!! Pretty depressing really and feeling like it may be time to give up hope now !
Clomid was mentioned as an option but as we already have children Unfortunately we cannot have this. Reading up about other options but time is ticking now and just keep getting so worried age gap between older sibling would be so big now maybe its better to leave it . Pretty hard to come to terms with as after a MC I almost feel I can't get over it until I have another child 😔😔
