ar daft question from a girl TTC

I used an Ovulation predictor Kit this week. I have a pretty regular cycle - always between 27 and 29 days but All 7 tests have tested negative. does that mean I am not ovulating? Feeling really nervous now and wish I had never used the D* thing in the first place. It's bad enough being disappointed one a month, let alone more.

The reason I feel daft asking the question is that I know I must have ovulated at least twice in my life - I have a DD. I suppose I have become a little desperate since I miscarriaged earlier this year....

Does anyone know whether it is likely that as a 33 year old, I am likely not to be ovulating every month?

Just bumping this up in the hope that someone more knowledgeable replies to you soon.

I know that it's possible that you might not be ovulating this month, it seems that that can happen to all women at some point, but I've never heard of it being a permanent thing.

I'm not sure being 33 is relevant, either.

Anyone else? It's a bit quiet on Mumsnet today...

most women dont ov every month, or have varying luetal phases. its a myth that we always ov on day 14 of our cycle. i've ov'd on CD8 and CD22 on subsequent months before now. how long have you been ttc?

Hi Abbevillemum

You may have had an anovulatory month - a cycle in which you don't ovulate - one or two of these a year is not anything to worry about.

On the other hand it could just be that you didn't take the tests properly - you might have tested too early in the day, not left it long enough between pees, drank too much water etc...

I wouldn't worry - a regular cycle is a good start and, as you say, you've conceived twice before. When was your miscarriage? Sometimes it can take the body a good few months to 'settle down' following miscarriage.

abbevillemum - try not to worry too much about it all (if that's possible!!) Generally it is assumed that we women have 1 out of 10 anovulatory cycles - this may well have been yours...it certainly doesn't mean that that's it.

Also, as Lissie says, just because your cycle appears to be regular (ie. 27 / 28 days) doesn't mean that you OV on CD14.
My cycles are generally 27 days and I usually OV on CD18 or 19. The first months that I used OPK I couldn't work out the problem but I was just missing the days. When I used two sets I realised what was happening...VERY expensive diagnosis though - those tests cost a fortune!!!

HTH.

Coggy!!!!! Been looking out for you...how did your most recent treatment pan out?

coggy · 06/10/2007 23:08

No.....and it seems like a long time ago too now!

AF arrived today (expectedly after a natural cycle) and now we are waiting for an IVF meeting - hopefully sometime in January.

It's very sad but...each month I decide on my thread title...just in case I get a BFP......that makes me sound much more desperate than I am honest!!!!!! I'm just SUPER hopeful I guess!!!!!

Thanks for asking.

Thanks guys. I had my miscarriage at the end of June. it seems like a lifetime ago....suspect I've not quite dealt with it yet.

hi abbevillemum - it's even more frustrating when you get a positive on the opks then a BFN as the others have said it's probably a no ovulating cycle or you have missed it. Come and join us on the ttc October thread (I had a mc in August this year as well) we are all mad and you can ask as mnay questions as you like as someone always knows the answers!
