Miscarriage

I just wondered if anybody has, had an MVA and how long it then took to have a period and then conceive afterwards.

In an ideal world, I didn't want a massive age gap between any possible children, however I started having a miscarriage at 12 weeks and after leaving it a few weeks I am still getting positive pregnancy tests. The hospital have said I have to wait another two weeks before they will consider any intervention treatment but have given the options as medical management or a MVA.
I just want to get this over with and get on with trying again and wonder which would be the best option as it seems unlikely that things are going to happen naturally.

Hi @ABC12310111213 firstly, I’m so sorry for your loss.

I had my surgery on the 27th July after having a confirmed mmc one week before. The medical management failed twice, which is why we went down the surgery route.

I got my negative pg test on the 5th August, and this morning I got my bfp at 12dpo.

I was told as long as I had a negative test, and emotionally felt ready, there was no reason for me to ensure I had one period before trying.

Hi @Sansa87. Thanks so much for replying and congratulations.

The lady I spoke to today said it was important that I wait to have a period first. I'll have to double check thats what she actually said. I am tempted to go with the MVA option as I am worried the medical management wouldn't work so that's interesting to hear your experience. Thank you and best of luck with your pregnancy. X

I had the MVA, chose to wait a cycle then try again. Now have baby DD!

I found the MVA quite painful but extremely quick and straightforward physically. If I were in that situation again I'd choose it again.

Good luck OP Thanks

@GiraffeHat congratulations on your DD. I'm glad things worked out for you.
I think I'm going to go for the MVA and I hope it isn't too painful and I can recover quickly.
Thanks for th replies x

I think it's only important technically to have a period first so they can date your pregnancy.

I lost my first pregnancy June 19. Naturally managed at home. Got pregnant in September and have my little one snoring away next to me currently.

I'm sorry for your loss but your rainbow baby isn't far away! Keep your spirits up but don't put pressure on yourself. It's normal to take up to a year x

They let me have my mva under general anaesthetic. No pain, minimal bleeding post op... the hardest bit was waking up and knowing the baby had gone. Mentally, for me, I do believe it was less traumatic than the other options, & I was grateful the tablets didn’t work either time.

It didn’t take long for me to get the physical side back to normal, I was signed off work a couple of weeks after for the emotional aspect though.
