Cyclogest following recurrent chemical pregnancies

Hi everyone,

Hoping to get some success stories and some advice regarding diagnosis of low progesterone, recurrent miscarriages and cyclogest.

I have suffered three chemical pregnancies, never developing a sac/implanting. I have always 'miscarried' around week 7.

Having had the numerous initial blood tests done by my GP they have identified that I have low progesterone - on day 21 of my cycle it was 13 (not 30), and we are surmising that this is leading to my pregnancy not getting beyond the point of implantation.

I have asked for cyclogest having read a number of articles on research done into progesterone support and my GP is writing to the specialists to ascertain when to start me on this.

I wondered if anyone here knew when I should start if my progesterone is too low in the luteal phase for a viable pregnancy to start?

I also hoped for some success stories.

Sending love to all who have had a difficult time conceiving x

I've had 3 miscarriages - 2 were mmc with the baby stopping growing at 5-6 weeks and one chemical.

I've been prescribed cyclogest to take from 7dpo 2x 200mg and up to 2 x 400mg if positive up to 12 weeks. Your GP sounds really supportive, wish mine was like yours!

Have you been referred for tests? After 3 losses you're eligible. Good luck x

@VenusStarr That is great, I thought it would be around that time but thought it would be day 12/14 of my cycle to support implantation if that makes sense? I feel like I make this stuff up as I go!

Ah no I am sorry that your GP isn't supportive. But good that they've prescribed you the cyclogest; I guess that is something.

I have yeah, so my specialist appointment is end of September but when I got it I asked my GP to do the initial blood tests so that I didn't have to wait so long. They were happy to, but I am still going to attend my specialist appointment. Good luck to you too x

I have heard of some people taking it as early as 3dpo, but I think the earlier it's taken, there is a small risk with ectopic pregnancy.

How long is your luteal phase? Mine is 14 days, but due to my type of miscarriages, the doctor felt that it was a uterine environment issue that was happening around week 5, so the babies were genetically normal but something was preventing them growing. So I think the progesterone could be helpful for you to make the lining optimum for implantation.

It's such a minefield. I hope you get answers from the recurrent tests 🤞

RachaelRed · 25/08/2020 14:55

@VenusStarr My luteal phase is normally 13/14 days. When my progesterone results came back it was 'as though I hadn't ovulated' but I knew I had, as I had tested (positive); not to try and conceive but to check if I was back to normal.

I just hope that progesterone is the answer, and provides an 'easy' fix to really awful experiences.x

I kept having chemical pregnancies and then an awful MMC.

I was prescribed cyclogest 400mg twice a day from as soon as I discovered I was pregnant. The consultant insisted I take it up to I think 20weeks.

That pregnancy stuck.

I honestly believe the cyclogest pessaries definitely helped me have two healthy pregnancies after four MC’s.

Good luck. I hope it works for you also.

RachaelRed · 25/08/2020 15:06

@frazzledasarock Thank you, I suppose what I'm worried about is that if I start the cyclogest too late and suffer another chemical pregnancy, which I'm sure you can appreciate is so draining on my mental health.

I am so sorry for your losses, but it's great to read that you have baby after help x

Hello,
Can I join?
Just wanted to say that my doctor prescribed progesterone for me, but in my case, he told me to start the evening of the insemination day ('im on medicated cycle with IUI inseminations). So if you start many days after ovulation, is maybe a little late as progesterone is supposed to help with implantation?

RachaelRed · 25/08/2020 16:12

@Morgane777 Of course you can join :)

I suspect I will need to start soon after ovulation to support the implantation side of things.

I hope it works for you xx

Thanks @RachaelRed! I hope it works for you too soon as well! Smile

Hi @RachaelRed I’ve just been prescribed this due to chemicals and a short luteul phase

I’ve been told from 7DPO but I too am worried that’s too late because my cd21/7DPO bloods showed low progesterone of 18 so surely my progesterone has already dropped by then?!
But then she terrified me that there’s a risk of ectopic taking it too early!!

Hi there, please can I join?

I'v had a natural pregnancy and live birth with my three year old son but this last year, iv had three miscarriages.
2 chemical and 1 MMC that died at around 5/6 weeks
I have had a full set of blood tests and previously spoke with a consultant. She told me to go away and try again and that is when I had my third miscarriage (2nd chemical)

I have been referred back to the same consultant now but I think I want to start taking progesterone pessaries. What do you ladies think?

Thank you Grin

RachaelRed · 15/03/2021 10:29

Hi @LHA11 Of course you can - although I don't know how active the thread is now (I'm not very good at mumsnet!).

I would say 100% go for it when you get a BFP - ask for the progesterone if they'll give it to you. I'm also taking 75mg aspirin.
I'm not sure if I have held on to this pregnancy yet - I was 7 weeks yesterday and have an early scan tomorrow to check (bricking it). What I would say is the progesterone has put my mind at ease and I do really feel like it has helped me mentally to be 'doing something'.

I'm sorry you've had the losses xx

Thank you Rachelred.
Good luck for your scan tomorrow I hope it all goes ok.
Iv just spoken to my GP and he advised against the progesterone, he didnt seem to have ever heard of the Cyclogest.
It's very disheartening. I dont know if I would be being stupid if I went against his advice and brought some

RachaelRed · 15/03/2021 15:46

@LHA11 I would email him the Tommy's research into cyclogest, or try and speak with a different GP. He shouldn't say no immediately if he doesn't understand or know what it is. Can you not speak with your consultant lady about the progesterone? Was she a consultant in recurrent losses?

I have been prescribed Cyclogest!!
Really hope it helps..
Rachaelred did your scan go ok?
