Hi everyone. Currently on cycle 18 of TTC no. 1. All other tests have come back spot on for me and my partner so the doctors have recommended a HyCoSy.
Firstly I'm a bit nervous about the pain (silly really considering I'm hoping to go through child birth 😂) so wondered if anyone has any positive comments about their HyCoSy?
Also can anyone confirm or deny if it increases fertility in the following months? Thanks!

Hi all I'm really stuck of which clinic to use for ivf/icsi I have immune issues and other health problems my tubes are blocked in and around why I need ivf I have had 2 filed attempts this is my last on the nhs what is everyone's experience with crgh and lwc?

@Luce89 I had a hycosy a couple of months ago and wasn't as bad as I had anticipated/read. The nurse and Dr were lovely and spoke to me throughout and said we could stop at any moment, the nurse even offered to hold my hand if I wanted that. It didn't take too long either. Probably the most painful bit was the catheter, felt like a really strong pressure or period pain. Like you, I kept thinking in my head "if I cant put up with this for 10 mins then how will I ever give birth"! Can't say we've been any more fertile as we're now booked in for IVF in September but I've heard for some people it works! You will be absolutely fine and it's all over in a flash! Best of luck x

I found it uncomfortable but got a bfp 2 months later without needing clomid (I was about to start clomid but didn't need it as feel pregnant naturally). I genuinely believe the hycosy helped flush out my tubes. I have pcos and had very long cycles.

2nd baby was conceived naturally within 2 months.

Good luck!

I had HSG done, not hycosy but it's similar enough as far as your experience goes. It can be painful, sure. Mine was horrific. But I lived, and you will too. Looking back, I barely even have a bad memory, just the fact that it was done. If needed, I'd do it again in a heartbeat, it goes very fast. Little to no discomfort after. Don't psych yourself up. Take 600 mg ibuprofen two hours prior. Some advise an extra dose a night before.

Mine really hurt too, but I did get pregnant the next month, so like a PP I also believe that it cleared the blockages in my tubes. Good luck!

Hi OP I had mine last month, my af is due Sunday so I haven't gone through the whole 3 months of being more fertile yet. Fingers crossed I'm pregnant but who knows. It's not that bad just feels like a smear I took painkillers an hour before but wasn't bad at all :) I good luck

Luce89 · 22/08/2020 23:31

Thanks @Missgoldilocks and good luck! You'll have to let me know if AF arrives tomorrow x

I had one after ttc no 2 for 18 months and got my bfp 2 months after the hycosy. I did find it bit painful but the doctor was really reassuring and she stopped at soon as she saw the dye had run through, which was really quick. It was over within a couple of minutes. I had a few cramps an hour or so after too but it wasn't too bad, and was worth it in the end.

I remember searching for threads on here for reassurance before mine and all the ones I found said the procedure wasn't painful so I figured I was one of those unlucky ones!

Good luck, I hope it works for you!

Missgoldilocks · 25/08/2020 14:17

@Luce89 thanks but it did arrive! Right on time ☹️ I'm wondering if I have PCOS even tho my cycles are regular, when I went for the hycosy the doc told me my ovaries were polystic but if my bloods were fine that I didn't have the syndrome, so I'm going for day 3 bloods next month to check it out and make sure!

Missgoldilocks · 25/08/2020 14:17

@Luce89 how did your appointment go?

Luce89 · 25/08/2020 19:25

@Missgoldilocks oh no, sorry to hear that. Fingers crossed for your next cycle!
The hycosy went ok actually. Was mostly just uncomfortable. It hurt a lot when the catheter went in, but that only lasted a few seconds. Had a bit of light bleeding after and some cramps so made sure to have a day of watching Netflix and eating chocolate!
