BBT adjusting - accurate or helpful?

Thoughts on temp adjusting? Is it relatively accurate? I'd appreciate any advice.

This is my first cycle temping and I didn’t realize how important it is to temp at the same time. I expected to ovulate a couple days ago but my BBT (basal body temperature) didn’t rise. I realized I’ve taken my temps anywhere from 5am to 8am... so I used an adjuster on a lot of them and I can now see a shift.

Is this a bad idea? From now on I’ll be consistent with the timing but for this cycle I’m finding it helpful. The dip and shift lines up exactly with the day I thought I ovulated (last day of EWCM). I think I'm having a slow rise, chart: imgur.com/a/PHZHOBQ

Hi. This is my first month tracking BBT. I've read you shouldn't really adjust temps. The odd 1 or 2 may be ok but nothing more that that.
I'm finding it really hard to test at the same time. I'm usually between 5am and 6:30. I didn't think an hour and half would make such a difference but it does. And there's been a couple of restless nights where I haven't had 3 hours of solid sleep prior to temping.

I've now set an alarm to take at my BBT at 5:15am every morning. Just hoping I can get back to sleep afterwards for another hr or so. 😂.

Hi @delaniejohnson and @LemonDrizzle44 in my first month temping I wasn't taking my temperature at the same time (I was taking it whenever I woke up or if I went for a wee in the night... haha), and my temperatures were really erratic.

I have since been taking them at exactly the same time every morning (06:30am) and I can see a picture emerging. If I sleep through my temping alarm and take it late or take it early for whatever reason then I often get an out of pattern temp and I discount it.

@delaniejohnson I've just also noticed your using the femometer app. The scale is much smaller so you don't see much of a rise. If you use the fertility friend app you'll see a much more obvious jump. I've attached my 2 charts.

@LemonDrizzle44 I've read that as well! But since my temps make little sense so far, I've realized it's because I've been really bad about taking them at the same time. I think I'm going to adjust for this cycle and then make sure I take them at the same time from now on!

I also tested it this morning. I woke up at 5, took BBT, and was 97.5. I inputted that into an adjuster and it said my BBT at 8 would be 98.1. I woke up at 8 and re temped and it was 98.07! So I think it could actually be accurate.

@LemonDrizzle44 Oops didn't finish my comment. Thanks so much for the recc! I'll start using FF! I didn't realize what a big difference that would make, I was pretty stressed about having such a small jump haha.

From my chart do you think it looks like I O'd? I know I need two more days of sustained higher temps to confirm but do you think that looks like a high enough "jump" so far?

@Kay00 See my comment above, I meant to tag you :)

I second the use of FF - the femometer charts are rubbish in comparison.

You should use temp adjuster sparingly so I wouldn't recommend readjusting a bunch of temps like your chart would warrant.

Having said that - I'd be inclined to try both? Maybe plot the adjusted ones in July with the real data in August so you can see them both when needed?

delaniejohnson · 12/08/2020 21:42

@Juno231@LemonDrizzle44

Thank you both! I got FF and inputted all of my data from August, and it's already given me crosshairs, and it's definitely much nicer than the Femometer chart. I used the adjusted temps for the past 3 days so I know it might be off but it's still nice to see. That's a good idea about inputting the original data for a different month and seeing what it does. Thanks!

Oh that's good! I do love good ole FF :)

LemonDrizzle44 · 12/08/2020 21:52

@delaniejohnson that looks a bit better on FF.
