Planning on TTC from November - any tips?

Hi

Just that really, my partner and I will be trying to conceive from November/December, and I was wondering if anyone has any advice on what I should be doing to prep in the meantime? vitamins etc? We had planned to start trying in April but once coronavirus hit, with one thing or another, it just made sense for us to wait until the end of the year. So been thinking there's perhaps stuff we could be doing in the meantime to give ourselves the best possible chances.

I'm 32 (not sure if that matters!), and this would be our first attempt at trying for a baby. Feel a bit clueless reading all the abbreviations here 😂 also feel there's a lot I should be tracking, but unsure where to start. I use the Clue app to track my periods, and it does give an estimated ovulation date so I was planning on going by that but if anyone knows a better, more reliable way, then please do let me know!

Apologies if this all sounds a bit clueless. Excited but nervous to get started!

I’m sure other ladies will come along and be able to give you some great advice, but I’d say cut down on caffeine etc now if you can, use the time you have to get both you and your oh in the best shape you can be health wise.

There’s absolutely no harm in starting on with folic acid and other vitamins now, they say ideally your body needs at least 3 months for enough to build up in your system, so the sooner the better.

If you don’t already track your cycles, and obviously depending how hard you want to start off the whole ttc thing, you could start tracking your cycles now on an app and use opk’s to try and pin point ovulation so that when you do start you won’t be missing your window each month.

But otherwise, just enjoy some stress free months lol. Because I know for me ttc consumes my days 😂

Good luck!!

You could start taking pregnancy vits. I did this for 3 months before trying.

I used the Glow app.

Have lots of sex. Try not to stress. And enjoy. Wink

Sorry just re read your message and saw you already use clue app. That’s great. As I said I’d personally get some opk’s and track using those too. I found before testing my apps were off slightly so had I just gone on what they said, I’d have been missing my chance.

I just use cheapie ones from eBay. Can get a bit pricey using brands like clear blue, especially when you can be testing up to 3 times a day to try and catch your peak.

What I’d do if I were you is start testing a couple of days before your app predicts you’ll ovulate, hopefully you’ll see the test line get darker over the days until your test line looks as dark or darker than the control line, once you’ve had that, continue testing for a few days to see the line go lighter again and then you’ll have a good idea that it’s pin pointed your ovulation. Once you get that peak reading, ovulation usually occurs within 12-24 hours, so say for instance you for your peak reading today you’d be due to actually ovulate tomorrow so, you’d be looking to have had sex for the last 5 days (or every other day during that period), today, tomorrow and the day after.

You can get apps like pre mom and femometer where you can track your cycles but also they have intelligent recognition and can ‘read’ your opk result when you upload a photo of it and give you a low, high or peak result so you don’t have to guess.
