Hi ladies!

Have any of you had a HyCoSy and what was your experience like? Was it painful, did you get pregnant not long afterwards?

Thanks 😁

Hi @Jessiebells
Everyone is different and will have did experiences. For me it was really uncomfortable
and I had intense cramping later that day. I also spotted for 2-3days after. For us we didn't get pregnant after.... but the lady doing the procedure said you are likely to be more fertile 3 months after the procedure.
Take some painkillers before the procedure
Good luck

Mine was a long time ago and I don’t actually remember it being painful. I had it in the morning and sat a university exam in the afternoon (mature student) Think I had some mild period like pains for an hour after and light spotting for a day or so. I didn’t get pregnant straight after but I was 6 weeks pregnant at my graduation which was a year later after 4 years of trying.

Hey! I had mine last month, I didn't find it painful it was a little uncomfortable when they put the speculum in, obviously, like a smear. My. Tubes and womb were clear and fine, I didn't concieve that month. And now in the 2ww of the second month. Really hoping for a miracle! I think the HSG procedure has higher pregnancy rate as they use oil based ink, but they stopped that as a lot of women were having reactions to it, the doctor that did my hycosy did say that they were perfecting the oil based hsg again and eventually it will be used again! Anyway, I took painkillers before the procedure, wasn't very painful as I said but I did have cramps a few hours later that were quite painful. Good luck x

@Missgoldilocks
I've got a question as I've got to have this test very soon.
When they put the speculum they insert the dye, then do they remove the speculum or do you have to stay for the whole half an hour with the speculum in? I'm so confused! How much of the procedure actually involves prodding and poking?

Missgoldilocks · 18/08/2020 12:40

@folklord no worries. First of all they do an internal scan to look at your ovaries and womb, they let you know if your endometrium is growing nicely and if your ovaries are too. Then, they finish the internal scan and put the speculum in, once the speculum is in and they have fed the catheter into your womb they then inject the dye and take out the catheter and speculum and go for an internal scan again so that you can see the ink flowing through your tubes and womb and that's it job done :)

Missgoldilocks · 18/08/2020 12:40

@folklord so I'd say the speculum is in you for 2 minutes maybe

folklord · 18/08/2020 13:07

Thank you @Missgoldilocks I couldn't seem to find that detail anywhere on all the many info pages I've read! I just couldn't bear the thought of being cranked open for ages but think I will cope with the scan.

Good luck for the rest of your 2WW, I hope you get a wonderful outcome

Missgoldilocks · 18/08/2020 13:40

@folklord thank you you too!

ellenpartridge · 18/08/2020 13:52

I had an HSG which is basically the same. I was really nervous but I found it better than expected - it was uncomfortable but not unbearable and for me was easier than cervical smear (which I massively struggle with). I was prescribed some diazepam to relax me a bit which helped a lot even if just psychologically. And I did get pregnant that cycle (though ended in MMC). I have read the procedure does increase your chances for the following 3 or so months. Good luck.

vinoelle · 18/08/2020 13:58

I conceived the very same month 🥰 and now cuddling my newborn. I’m convinced it was the key to us getting pregnant

Puddlelane123 · 18/08/2020 14:00

I had one and found it very painful, but only at the point at which the dye was injected. I found that part toe-curling (although thankfully short lived) so do load up on painkillers before. I had mild cramps and bleeding afterwards but nothing significant.

I did conceive the month afterwards but it sadly ended in mmc.

Best of luck and I hope the procedure brings good results.

folklord · 18/08/2020 14:05

@ellenpartridge diazepam is an excellent shout- I'm sure I have some lying about somewhere!

Jessiebells · 29/08/2020 12:52

Thank you so much everyone for your replies. I had the procedure took painkillers before hand found it uncomfortable and like bad period pains. They said tubes were all clear which was nice to hear. So now just hopeful for BFP in the next few months!! @Missgoldilocks how did you get on this month? Sending baby dust your way ✨ x

Yes. It was more embarrassing than painful!
Clear tubes. Got pregnant on the next cycle 😊 they said a lot of women get pregnant within 3 months as its like a 'tubes clear out'! X

bookish83 · 29/08/2020 12:54

I think it helped get pregnant. It also took a worry away (totally made up own worry!) ttc for 8 months in total x

Missgoldilocks · 29/08/2020 14:13

@Jessiebells no luck for me unfortunately I was pregnant the last 2 times afterwards, one more shot I suppose but I'm also trying isoflavones this cycle. Good luck to you xx
