Clomid - when to take?!

I’ve just been prescribed Clomid and my prescription says to take on day 5 of my period, but literally everywhere else says to take on day 2?! I have a longish cycle (32-34) but I didn’t actually discuss that with my doctor. Normally I would just trust the GP but he asked me virtually no questions at all and it seems later than everything I’ve read?!

If you’ve taken Clomid, what day of your period did you have to start taking it? Was it always day 2 or does it depend on some other factors?

Help! My period is due to start any day and I want to make sure I’m doing it right Confused

Thanks xxx

Hello,
I haven't taken clomid before but will do when my period comes in the next week. Are you sure the prescription says to take it on day 5 and not take it for 5 days in total? I've been told to start taking it day 2, for 5 days, so day 2,3,4,5 and 6. I've read online too this is usually how it is taken. Is there anyone you can call from your clinic to double check? X

I was told to take it days 2-6 then test for ovulation from day 12. I was also advised to take it at night as some people have quiet bad side effects.

I was told 5-11 and fell pregnant

I thought maybe I had misread it but it definitely says day 5 for 5 days! I guess I’ll just go with what it says and see what happens first month. Still waiting for my period to start anyway so have time to endlessly mull over it and obsess. Anxiety is great for fertility, right?! Confused

If clomid works the same way as soy isoflavones (which I believe it does), then taking it on day 5 is fine.

You can take it cd2-6, cd3-7, cd4-8 or cd5-9.

Taking it earlier can produce more eggs and make you ovulate earlier, taking it later usually results in only one egg being released, but if better quality.

It’s often said that taking it cd3-7 is the best of both worlds. May produce more than one egg, but the egg/s should be of better quality, and ovulation may be brought forward slightly.

Hope that helps.

I’ve been taking SI for a few months cd3-7 and saw my ovulation come forward from cd22 to cd13/14 and 15. No bfp for me yet but I’m happy with it.

@moominmiss Oh excellent knowledge! Okay maybe I'll try CD3-7. My ovulation is also around CD22 which just feels like the most agonisingly long wait. Thank you so much for your info!

@Vilain no problem at all. I have a thread on here somewhere with more detailed info about soy isoflavones and how they work. Will try and find you and tag you in it as like I said I believe soy is basically like natures clomid. You just have to take more soy to get the same effect as clomid.

Good luck!

@Vilain I found the thread but rather than you have to read through it to find the info I’ve just copied and pasted it here for you!

You take Soy Isoflavones, like Clomid, on either CD (cycle day) 1-5 , 2-6, 3-7 , 4-8 or 5-9.
If you take soy Isoflavones during the later time bracket, for example CD5-9, you shall strengthen the egg that has already started growing producing a healthier egg. The earlier in your cycle you take It, the higher your chance of releasing multiple eggs but these eggs will not be as mature as the eggs grown from taking Soya later.
A lot of women will choose the middle cycle (3 -7) allowing time for a strong and healthy egg to develop without erasing the chance of a second egg being developed and released.

1-5 = you produce more eggs, and ovulate sooner, with a stronger ovulation.

2-6 = you produce more eggs that usual, but not as many as taking it 1-5. Eggs may be more mature, and ovulation will be slightly more strong than 1-5.

3-7 = The best of both worlds, a few more eggs, and all eggs will be strong & mature, and ovulation will be alot stronger than 1-5.

4-8 = No more eggs will be produced, but the ones already there, will be matured alot more than usual, and ovulation will be very strong. Ovulation may only be brought forward a teeny bit.

5-9 = You'll have one very mature strong egg, from the ones you already produced on your own. Ovulation will either happen when it usually does, or a few days later, but your egg will be of great quality.

The dose is really down to you but you should always use the lowest amount that works for you.
With Clomid the starting dose is 100mg. Soya Isoflavones are said to be half the strength of Clomid, so it makes sense for the starting dose to be 100mg.

You're an absolute superstar @Moominmiss!! Thank you so much for all your help - I'm going to go with day 3! Now my period just needs to hurry up and start; I'm on day 34 already Angry

How did you get on with the Clomid? I’m about to start and also obsessing about what days to take it!
