Hi I am plus size and admittedly put on a lot of weight. If I can feel ovulation pains and get a positive opk does that mean my chances of getting pre6are still normal or should aim to lose weight when actively try again

I'm not sure about the ins and outs of the effect weight has on chance of conceiving. But I was always under the impression that it normally had the biggest effect on ovulation, so if you're ovulating then I'd expect you will stand as good a chance as anyone of conceiving Smile

Having said that, I do still think you should aim to lose weight if you are overweight. Carrying a baby is a physically taxing process on your body and there are alot of risks that are increased if the mother is overweight. Anything you can do to get healthier and lose weight in the run up to conceiving is likely to make things better for both you and your baby.

Good luck!

Hi, sorry to ask how over weight are you?
I have scanned many over weight ladies the largest had a bmi of 56 so it is possible!
Weight does have an impact on conception - but not for everyone. I see very large ladies who are pregnant and struggle a lot with carrying the baby, back pain, shortness of breath, the list goes on, there are a lot of weight associated risks also. Look at the RCOG guideline for high BMI in pregnancy. You could like me try to loose weight and carry on trying and what will be will be, but I’m getting old, over weight so the chances are getting slimmer each month.
I never wanted children but the last 8 months that’s all I have want and it’s driving me crazy.

I read the optimum weight for conceiving is around 22-23 bmi so you should be aiming to lose weight to give yourself the best chance.

I dont think my bmi has ever been that low the lowest it's probably ever been is 28

Hey OP, if you're ovulating, that's a great sign. Weight loss will certainly help, and it'll help when you carry a baby as it's a stressful time on our bodies. If it's any help, I lost weight before pregnancy and got my BMI down to 29 and midwifes havent had any problems with it, doesn't put my high risk etc x

I think sometimes it can be an issue but not necessarily. This is anecdotal but it took us a year and I’m average BMI and my friend who is overweight got pregnant first try!
