Hello ladies -

I've been Mumsnet Free for 2 months now but found an inescabaple urge to log on

For those of you who don't know me, have been TTC No.2 this year and have m/c twice in March at 7 weeks and July at 10 weeks.

Was going to take a BD break till New Year but you know how it is, the little voice in your head (or maybe your ovaries!) talks you into thinking about going for it again.

Have had one AF since m/c and am just about to have another. All that progesterone is probably why I feel so weepy. I visited my friend's new born yesterday, picked him up and burst into tears. Rather embarassing

Obviously the standard line I got from EPU and GP was "we don't do any tests after 2 m/c, you'll very likely be fine next time, go away".

But I have been reading up (Zita West, Lesley Reagan) and I am starting to get worried and wondering if I should convince DH to get some private tests done before we rush into a potential 3rd m/c

My questions / concerns are:

  1. The "oh well you've had one child, you must be okay" is a myth. Apparently you have the LOWEST rate of m/c with your first child (only 5%)
  2. If I have some sort of autoimmune problem that is causing the fetus to be rejected,(maybe helped by heparin injections) then this gets worse with every subsequent pregnancy. So a 3rd m/c would lower my chances even further.
  3. Autoimmune probs are rare but they focus on the placenta and in a milder form cause problems when the baby is well into pregnancy. I suffered placental abruption with DS and the said when they removed it that it was very small and had not been nourishing him properly for the last couple of weeks. This is why he only weighed 5lbs at full term. This is why I am concerned I may have this type of problem... 4.Similary a m/c after a fetal heartbeat has been found (as in my case with second m/c) indicates strongly that there wasn't a genetic problem with baby but rather a problem with the mother in some way 5.My other different concern is that I did have a "very" emergency C-section with DS (the consultant said it was the fastest he'd ever seen!)and I'm worried my uterus may be scarred or damaged in some way. All the GPs have been at great pains to deny that a CS could ever affect further early pregnancies but I do have a colleague who took 10 years to get No.2 (!) and she was told her by her specialist that her womb had been damaged by the first delivery and that it had needed all that time to recover

Anyway, sorry all that must make me look like a bit of a psycho... I just have so many questions and am SOOOOOOO scared of a 3rd m/c

Do you think I'm paranoid and should just get on with TTC or should I try and get tests done??

I would esp love to hear from anyone who's had two m/c (maybe where a fetal heart was seen)and then went on to do it third time lucky

Many thanks for reading
BB xx

Midwife finally got back to me at 6pm last night. Gave me the usual talk about how they would give me an early scan at 8 weeks. I said I didn't want an early scan, I wanted a blood test for APA. She seemed totally non -plussed and said even if I did need heparin injections, they wouldn't give them to me until a fetal heart was sen at 8 weeks.

Is this correct? At St Mary's London, I read that they start heparin as soon as they see a tiny fetal sac in the womb at 5 weeks

Anyway, she's going to chat to the consultant and says she will phone me back this afternoon

Sigh. Very difficult to concentrate on teaching Year 10...

Consultant rang me and said that the tests aren?t valid when you?re not PG and they can?t give you the injections "just in case" because if you haven?t got the blood problem then having the injections could cause problems with your placenta!! Basically, all I can do is wait.

Fingers crossed

hi basil brush
i had two m/cs with a heartbeat in the second one. a year later got pregnant again and have a 20 mo boy
now i am one of the super-paranoid types.
i got checked out intensively - privately here, in the us and in india. including auto immune tests (they showed a problem, abt my fertility specialist wanted to put me on all sorts of drugs). but my gyane in india (bless her) convinced me to stop relax and ttc - she was right about it.
my best advise is to relax.
do not obsess about second or third m/c etc.
my biggest lesson was you will have a baby when you are meant to. you have to accept that.
relaxing and tcc worked for me, i hope it will for you as well.
sending lots of best wishes your way.
2 m/cs are heart breaking
p.s. i was super paranoid all thru my pregnancy...
