Trying to Concieve after Miscarriage - Help Please...

Hi everyone,

Im so confused with what to do and feeling down that I thought I would ask for any advice please...

I am 29 years old started the trying to conceive journey with my husband 1 year and 8 months ago. We had some great news that I became pregnant 1 and 4 months after trying to conceive. However, unfortunately this pregnancy resulted in a miscarriage after 7 weeks.

It has now been 3 months after this miscarriage and I have so been longing to become pregnant again, for some reason I was hoping I would become pregnant again instantly after reading that after a miscarriage you become more fertile.

I wanted some advice whether it would be useful to go to the GP and maybe be referred to see someone about fertility etc to check whether everything is ok or if I need interventions etc... rather than waiting patiently and trying without knowing whether it is just naturally taking time and the GP just saying wait another year etc...or if I should be proactive.

I would value opinions and any similar experiences.

Thank you

I wouldn't have thought you'd need any interventions, although your miscarriage is awful and I'm so sorry you went though that, I'd say it's just a time issue. Usually doctors say leave it a year I think without conceiving.
Are you using OPKs and temp to pinpoint ovulation?

Sorry Op are you saying it took over a year to conceive, or 4 months?
What methods (if any) are you using? I was pg a lot (rmcs) and I found temp charting and tracking with fertility friend very useful, I had also used those ovulation sticks with the smiley faces. Avoid oral sex (Saliva can be a spermicide) Increase your vitamins.
I'm sorry about your miscarriage, it is very hard.

Hi @Nottherealslimshady thank you for your response, I wasn't sure if the one year to conceive was per pregnancy, it took 1 year and 4 months for the first, so is it then another year for this new trying to conceive period which has already been 3 months.

I have been using ovulation sticks about one week after my period rather than the whole month and have found one day of ovulation.

@Iggi999 Hi thank your for your response, it took 1 year and 4 months (16 months) to conceive. Thank you for your tips appreciate it, I have been using the cheaper ovulation sticks one week after ovulation, maybe I should invest in the smiley face ovulation sticks - long many days in the month were you testing using ovulation sticks?

I may also start temperature charting..Ill look into this some more.

Oh sorry I didn't understand your first post. Thought it was 4 months. Then yeah I'd absolutely see your doctor and get some tests.

I used the smiley face OPKs and they worked for me, takes all the guesswork out.

So sorry for your difficult journey and loss.

Charting is better than the sticks, though I did use both. I used the sticks only around when I thought it would be - so maybe four in a month? But when you get the smiley face ideally you've had sex the day before as well. Did you ever see your doctor after the 1 year mark? You are young though so time is on your side. I was doing this as I turned 40 Smile You can get a much better feel for your ovulation with temp charting - it's cheap too, a body temp thermometer and can use paper or an app like fertility friend. I'll see if I can remember the book I used. Do you notice cervical fluid that looks a bit like egg whites? That usually means you're in a fertile time. Temping means you can see if you actually ovulate each month.

Toni Weschler - taking charge of your fertility.
I (eventually) had a successful pg, and the relative I passed the book on to did as well!

@Iggi999 Thank you so much for the reassurance and advice definetely more motivated to be more proactive with this, i have ordered a thermometer and the fertility friend app to track cervical fluid and temperature.

Thank you for the advice much appreciated Smile Grin
