Men and folic acid?

Just seen a couple of articles saying about the benefits of men taking folic acid to boost their sperm count etc. Just wondered if anyone can give personal experience on this? Is it worth giving it a try? We are ttcing from September but I've started taking folic acid so just thinking would it be worth the Oh taking it too! Smile

Unless you expect to have fertility issues then I wouldn't worry too much. The only reason women are advised to take folic acid early is to allow stores to build up in case you're deficient, and to ensure that in the early days before your BFP the embryo has as much folic acid as it could possibly need.

Both me and my husband used pregnecare vitamins a couple of months before trying for a baby and then I continued to use them throughout my pregnancy...u can buy his and hers joint packet to use when trying to conceive...expensive but worth it xx

@starfish18 so I asked my gp about these the other day (was discussing other medication bits) and she said as I already take vitamin D I only need to add folic acid and the pregnancy vitamins are a bit of a waste of money 🤷‍♀️ I might try just with the vitamin d and folic acid for a few months and then if it doesn't work then I'll look into the pregnacare. Thank you tho hun, really appreciate the message xx

Most of those pregnancy multivitamins are more of a marketing ploy than anything else. They don't help you get pregnant more quickly, they would just ensure you get adequate nutrition, which you are better off eating a balanced diet to achieve.

We can't consume enough food to get the recommended supply of folic acid to reduce the risks of neural tube defects sufficiently.

Lots of people in the uk are vit d deficient because your body uses sunlight to metabolise it and lots in the uk don't get enough sunlight!
