Still no one removing coils....

There was a thread a little while back about no one removing coils. I'm still struggling with this. The GP still isn't doing it and the local sexual health clinic aren't either. I've been wanting to get mine removed for months but still not having any luck. For the first few month I didn't mind but now I'm finding it difficult that so much choice has been taken from me and can't seem to see an end in sight. There's so many other services which have started back up and I just don't know when it's going to open up again. Now I'm wondering whether to go private but that's expensive.... It's really frustrating (with the caveat that we've been in a pandemic.... But things are opening up more generally....). Wondering if anyone else is having the same difficulties and anything you can suggest? Don't want to risk DIY!

Hey, I had my coil removed a couple of weeks ago. They said services aren't running normally but I expressed that I was finding it painful & wanted to start trying for a family so they booked me in. Im based in Bristol for reference

That's good to hear-I'm glad you were able to.
Each time I call the GP I speak to the receptionist and they tell me that they're not doing that and they don't know when it will restart...

Hey op,
Ring your local sequel health place and tell them its causing you pain etc, mine genuinely was I was bleeding for 14 days in pain etc but they can't refuse to remove it if its causing a problem, I had mine removed in May too! And there was loads of people at the clinic so I felt less guilty. Good luck

Can you ask to speak to an actual GP? It looks from the nhs site as though they are removing them in "certain situations" so if you could speak to a doctor and explain then perhaps they could help?

I had mine done last week. They didn't even ask me why!

Cheesestring84 · 11/07/2020 10:20

Took mine out myself Blush

@Wildflower2 You need to elaborate to the receptionist the urgency of needing It removed for health reasons & put a bit of pressure on otherwise they won't take any notice.

I had the copper coil for nine months and did genuinely want it removed before thinking about TTC as it was so painful & periods were lasting ages. Was planning to do it before lockdown. I was fully expecting them to tell me they couldn't remove it until services went back to normal but think in certain circumstances they will.

Try again & good luck Smile

@Cheesestring84 omg. Dare I ask how??

5rosebud · 11/07/2020 10:23

@Wildflower2 oh probably should add that they did require me to have a phone consultation with the Doctor first, the receptionist didn't just book me in for it to be removed. I think the doctor wanted more of an idea as to why I wanted it removed etc before she agreed to do it.

Cheesestring84 · 11/07/2020 10:26

DerbyshireGirly relaxed in a hot bath. Had a good feel for both strings, went up as high as they went and gave a slight tug, there it was. Took a second, didn't feel anything.

I want mine removed too, although not for TTC reasons as I am 54.

Against my better judgement, I agreed to try it last December because of very heavy and flooding periods. It was put in during a hysteroscopy under general anesthetic.

I am pretty sure that I can trace some of my now regular low mood and anxiety back to within a week or so of that being done. Other reasons too without going into too much detail.

I've felt a bit trapped with it during lockdown if I am honest and really wish I hadn't let myself be persuaded back in February to just give it a little bit longer to settle.

I may well start applying pressure this week to get it removed. I have had enough, but didn't like to ask just as the pandemic was starting to bite.

I had mine removed last week. I was in so much pain with it. The first nurse I spoke to really tried to brush me off.

Wildflower2 · 16/07/2020 17:48

Thanks so much for your replies. Finally got through via a new electronic system they've put in so you can directly message your GP and the GP agreed to remove it. I was in and out within a few minutes earlier this week.
Good luck to anyone else trying to access contraceptive services at the moment.

Thanks for the update. Glad you got what you wanted.

Enquiring about removal is on my to-do list for the next week or two. I have had enough of this daily bleeding (since last December, all bar about three weeks).

It isn't for contraception. I just want rid of it and regret agreeing to have it put in.
