Fertility issues

Hi all,
I’m new to this site and currently trying to conceive my 4th child ( with a new partner)

It’s 8 years on since I was last pregnant and I’ve been TTC for 6 months. My cycle is regular and I’m ovulating regularly according to Sticks.

I’m just wondering do any of the women on here ever think it might be their partners as to why they are not getting pregnant, that their partners have fertility issues?

A year is a long time to wait when the female has regular cycle , ovulating and nothing?
Do doctors think it could be the man and how soon do they recommend a seminal analysis?

I’m not sure if this has been discussed before.

A year, 2 in some places. 6 months is no time at all

If it's 8 years since you last fell pregnant it's just as likely to be you - in fact most of the time it's the woman's age which is likely to be the main issue? How old are you?

Moominmiss · 12/07/2020 15:36

How old are you?

I’m 38 and also ttc my fourth. My 3 children are from a previous relationship and my youngest was born 6 years ago.

I fell pregnant extremely easily with each of them.

I have fallen pregnant 3 times with my current oh but sadly mc each time so I suspect the issue is my age and egg quality rather than him. However because I’m over 35 and we’ve now suffered 3 recurrent mc we have been referred.

I am due this week to have several blood tests, and my oh has been given an appointment for a semen analysis.

As I said this is purely because we’ve suffered 3 losses now.

If you’re over age 35 they’d want you to have been ttc 6 months, if you’re under then 12 months.

Good luck

Hi,
Thank you all for your posts.
I am 381/2 and ttc for 6 months. I just don’t want to wait for another 6 months and then realise I should and could have acted earlier.

The problem is that even though the NHS might test his sperm and run a couple of checks on you - eg to check you are ovulating you wouldn't be entitled to IVF on the NHS as you have children already even though your partner doesn't. So ultimately even if they did find an issue they won't treat it?

6 months at any age I’m afraid is nothing. At 35 or below they won’t do anything until a year as passed and that’s more to give you an answer as the PP has said IVF would be off the table if you have already children.

Some places will over 35 years after 6 months so you could chat to your doctor but as before most healthy can take up to a year or more and that timeline increases with age.

I’m ages with you and have been trying 2 years.

*will investigate after 6 months

As previous posters have said, 8 years is quite a lot of time in terms of female fertility. There is quite a lot that can change between 30 and 38.

Could you afford to go down the private route for a fertility check-up? It might be worth both of you getting checked just for peace of mind?

I do agree that, regardless of age, TTC can easily take up to 12 months though.
