Recurrent MC & tests ttc

I’ve posted on the miscarriage and loss threads and had 0 response so think this would fit in here too.

I’m currently going through my 3rd MC and have finally been referred to gynaecology and a recurrent miscarriage clinic that will be opening soon in a near by hospital. For me it’s not the getting pregnant bit that’s difficult it’s the staying pregnant. Has anyone got any advice/ experience in this? As in what tests to ask for, what vitamins/supplements I should take? I’ve heard a lot about aspirin? Just looking for anyone else’s experience- thank you 💐

Hey, really sorry to hear about your losses. They’re truly awful.

I’ve also had 3 losses within the last 6 months so have been referred by my gp to a fertility consultant.

Like you, getting pregnant doesn’t seem to be an issue, but keeping hold of it does.

I was taking just folic acid, vit d, and ubiquinol daily, but this cycle I started taking a low dose of aspirin from ovulation.

I also have some natural progesterone cream I will try.

I have received my referral now and have been put forward for several blood tests that need to be done within the first 5 days of my cycle, and then a test on day 21. We’ve also had an appointment for my oh to have a semen analysis done.

The tests I have to have done within the first 5 days are FSH, LH, Prolactin, Testosterone, and Thyroxine. Then the one at 21 days is progesterone.

I don’t know how old you are, but I’ll be 38 this month so I feel my issues will be more down to my age than anything else. Probably just lack of good quality eggs left.
I have 3 children already from a previous relationship, all were conceived very easily with no issues.

The fact my current partner is only 30 and has managed to get me pregnant on a number of occasions again makes me think the problem won’t be with his sperm but with me.

Best case scenario would be that it’s a low progesterone issue and I simply need help there, or something else that is easily rectified, but only time will tell now.

Good luck. I’m sure now you’ve had the referral they will look after you.

I think the testing is sort of a process of elimination. So they’ll likely start with basic blood tests, and gradually rule things out.

@Moominmiss thank you for replying- im sorry for your losses, I’ve had 3 MC in 5/6 months too. It’s absolutely awful!
I had a MMC in February should of been 9 weeks but heartbeat stopped at 7w4d
A very early MC in April/may
And another MMC at 8w1d should have been around 9 weeks. Which I still haven’t MC after medication on Wednesday so now I’ve got to wait another week before they’ll offer anymore treatment. I haven’t got any children and we are trying for our first.
I was taking folic acid and vitamins etc. I’m worried to take anything else now as I don’t want it to affect the tests. I’m hoping they’ll be able to see me soon.
I feel exactly the same too, it’s not my husband. It’s definitely something with me. I hoping it’ll be “sticky blood” or something treatable.
I hope your tests give you an answer ♥️
Did you have any of your last pregnancy tested? Xx

Sorry for your losses OP. I had my 3rd MC a month ago and awaiting an appointment at the multiple MC clinic. How old are you? Age obviously has a huge baring on egg qualify. I've just bought a book called 'It starts with an egg' and its very interesting. I got it off ebay (the latest, 2019 edition). 2 of my losses were due to chromosomal issues within the egg, and likely just my age.

I'm waiting to see IF anything abnormal comes up at the MC clinic. All other tests though have been normal. Good egg count for age, clear tubes, no endo/PCOS, good sperm count. The only thing against me is being early 40's, so old eggs and higher change of chromosomal issues. I recommend the book and some lifestyle changes- healthy weight etc. best of luck x

What vitamins, supplements, aspirin use you need really depends on several factors. Unless you have a clotting issue, found on blood tests, then aspirin isn't usually recommended until later in the pregnancy, and of more use in reducing pre-eclampsia. I was told to start aspirin when I had a positive preg test on the last pregnancy (IVF), but when I started to MC, was told to stop the aspirin, and that I shouldnt have been advised to start take it that early at all!!! It wasnt the reason for MC though, as I had genetic tests on the foetus.

I take 200mg ubiquinol a day, which some studies show can help egg quality. The IVF specialist said its fine to try, but not 100% proven, but worth a try if its not ridiculous expensive. I was also told I should be on 5mg of folic acid, not the regular 400mcg. I also started DH on lycopene supplements which have been shown to improve sperm quality.

@Sophj19 hi
I can also conceive very quick but failed in the middle of my 6 the week. I miscarried medically last weekend. For Recurrent miscarriage I read
-low dose aspirin 75 to 100 mg
-steroids most common is prednisone (10 to 20 mg) per day
-progesterone 200 to 400 mg
-Folic Acid
-and Vitamin D
many people used them and successfully reached to their second trimester. There is also a therapy called Intralipids. It also helps from what I find out. Most blame the NK cells, the Natural Killer Cells for the repeated pregnancy lose. Mainly if the baby shows a heart beat and than at some when her heartbeat stops... I find this you tube link

the talk is for medical doctors but this doctor is recommending the therapy with aspirin, steroids and intralipids. This is all I get so far.. I will wire more if I catch something new. take care
