Ovulation tests advice

Its time I started being a little more scientific about all of this before we head down the fertility treatment line. After 2 years I think I know my cycle pretty well but of course I may be wrong!
Does anyone have suggestions about which ovulation tests to use, how to go about it, common pitfalls etc?

Personally I use BBT, as I found using OPKs more difficult to interpret and it felt like peeing money away. I read "taking charge of your fertility" and kept referring back to it during the first few cycles but now only need to occasionally refer back to it. I know OPKs are popular on here though so I'm sure someone will be along with advice for brands/tips for usage!

i've got less than a months worth of experience so probably not the best! suffice to say though, on a fairly standard 28 day cycle i was v surprised that didn't get LH surge til like CD20....i assumed would be day 14ish. Having said that, waiting for AF now so have presumed will be a 28day cycle this month and not longer for any reason!
as @PlanBea said it did feel like peeing money away when after one box of 7s i hadnt had LH surge so onto the next box of 12. was using the Boots brand digital ones. they were clear to understand and use tho, and get 2 days where the line is darker than a ref line which indicates LH surge. i'll prob use them again for a month or two to figure out if what happened this cycle is normal. good luck!

I used a combination of OPKs and BBT to conceive my first, now doing the same as I try for #2. Clearblue digital OPKs are pretty good as you get a smiley face to tell you when you're at your peak instead of trying to interpret a line, but they can be expensive.

@Fizzy13 the clearblue advanced are currently on offer on Amazon £16 for 20 test sticks. I've used them for the first time this month and feel like they've really taken the guessing out of the equation. I got a flashing smiley 4 days before my static smiley so know that I have DTD at the right time (we did every other day until the static where we did 2 days in a row). Last month I was using ics and basically completely missed my surge because it was so much later than I thought it would be!

I'm another vote for the Clear Blue digital ovulation kits! They really do take the guess work out of comparing lines on the cheaper OPKs. It tells you when your fertile window starts and then when you get your 'peak'. I'm only on month two of using but my actual ovulation dates were a little out compared to what my apps were saying so I'm glad I started testing.
