So I had my implant out last August, and we've been trying properly since December (temps, OPK etc), and still no luck! AF arrived this morning, so looking at booking a GP appointment with my partner to see if we can get some answers... What am I likely to expect? Never though that it would take this long to conceive, so I never looked this far ahead... 😭
Hoping they can give us some answers!

How old are you? Most GPS will send you away until it's been a full year

If you’re under 35 they’re likely to tell you to carry on ttc for another 6 months as 12 months ttc is considered normal for anyone under 35. If you’re over 35 then it’s 6 months.

I’m over 35 and been ttc for 10 months and have just been referred for blood tests and semen analysis for my oh. Although we manage to get pregnant easily, but for some reason it never sticks.

I’ve been referred for various blood tests that need to be done within the first 5 days of my cycle, and then one blood test for progesterone which needs to be done on day 21.

So I’m in the process of waiting for the right times in order to get those done, then once the clinic has the results in from both me and my oh, they will get us in for an appointment to discuss results and the next steps.

So assuming you fit the criteria in terms of age,l and length of time trying, then blood tests are usually the first steps. Beyond that there are scans to look at ovaries etc and lots of various procedures depending on what, if anything is found.

I’m only speaking from my own experience so far.

Good luck

Thanks guys! I'm 26, it will have been a year in August - so that's why I'm looking to book it soon - by the time you actually get appointments with my GP I reckon it will be 12 months!

Just trying to get a feel for what the next step is :)

Hi OP. The GP won't say anything. They'll just refer you to the hospital where you'll have various blood tests and your partner will have sperm analysis done. The results of your initial blood tests will probably influence what happens next. They'll check your hormone levels at certain points in your cycle (day 3 and day 21) to start with.
I don't know if they're still offering those appointments at the moment, but even if they are, be prepared to wait a long time for each appointment. That was certainly my experience, even before COVID.

Best of luck!
