Codeine and TTC

I had a HyCoSy this morning and I was very scared of the pain as I've found other procedures very painful. So I took paracetamol and codeine an hour before the procedure. (It still hurt quite a lot but only for a short while. And now I feel dizzy and nauseous so the codeine definitely wasn't worth it, I wish I hadn't taken it!)

It only occurred to me afterwards that codeine might not be good for TTC. I'm cd10 and I'll probably ovulate in about 6 days. I've just done an internet search but I haven't come up with anything definitive. Can anyone point me to any sources about the effects of codeine on TTC? Do you think I should skip trying this cycle in case it would cause birth defects?

Thanks in advance.

Oh and the procedure showed that I have a blocked tube. But the hospital say they won't do anything about it unless I have another ectopic so the whole experience was utterly pointless 😂

Hi OP. Sorry you had to have a HyCoSy. I had one myself and found it mega painful.

I am prescribed opiates for a permanent joint problem I have. I've got a son, and when I was pregnant with him, my GP suggested I change medication down to a strong codeine throughout my pregnancy (obv I only took it when I absolutely needed to). My baby was perfectly healthy and his size was fine.

I'm no medical professional, but this would lead me to believe that taking a small amount of codeine (presumably over the counter) would not have any detrimental affects on a pregnancy, so I'm sure you're fine to crack on!

Best of luck.

Thank you @Glitterandunicorns so useful to hear a personal experience. All the guidance just kind of said ask your doctor without being specific. We are going ahead and trying this month I think you're right it's not such a big deal. Hope your joints are ok! X
