Hello!

I've been reading loads on the importance of pre-conception nutrition and preparing your body. Some say 3 months before and I've seen some that say 6 months before.

I find myself trawling through threads on Mumsnet but wondered if there were any ladies planning to start TTC in the next few months and wanted a forum to chat about ways to prepare / excitement of it all etc.

I often find myself going on to my bf and mum and they're like ok ok! 😂

@mackjm20 I think we just thought we really have no idea how long this is going to go on for! I don't want it to keep affecting our life! (easier said then done I suppose!)

@queenatom tell me about it. I think if I spoke about half the stuff I do on here, it would give him an anxiety attack. He already thinks I'm a psycho for taking my temperature every morning lol

@JamesZebra sounds fantastic and well deserved. The sex sounds good too! Good on you! Fingers crossed for you

I have definitely come to the conclusion that OH quiting his vaping has improved our sex life. I also think him not going to the gym everyday is helping too. We had a pretty candid discussion about it yesterday and he said going gym and then coming home to work really exhausted him and even though he wanted to have sex, he just didn't have the energy.

Dreading when he goes back to the gym as I have really enjoyed it!! We did consider he lays off the gym during my fertile window to help us get it in more without putting too much pressure on him when he is tired.

CookieMonster3001 · 03/08/2020 13:46

you're CD 13 test looks positive to me! or close enough! Hope you managed to get some BDing in on those days!

Lollipop87 · 03/08/2020 13:47

@queenatom sorry to hear about your short cycle, but fingers crossed it’ll get a little bit longer over the next couple of months. My first cycle off the pill was 25 days but I seem to be around 27 now.

@CookieMonster3001 aww thanks! So cute what your OH said about there being 3 of you next year. I definitely think the closer it gets to TTC the more real it gets for the men and they start actually getting excited. Yes it’s a shame about our holiday but I think in a way DH is relieved as now we’ll probably just go away the 2 of us whereas Menorca would have been with my family, and as it’ll be my fertile week we want to do lots of BD’ing which will be more fun without having to worry about being quiet 😂 I reckon there will be another lockdown by Sept/Oct unfortunately, fingers crossed we get to at least go on one holiday! Your 3 months will go so quick, I can’t believe it’s only just over a month until we start our TTC journey and when I came off the pill it was 4 months which has just flown!

@JamesZebra well done on the no alcohol! I drank quite a lot this weekend, we sat in our neighbours’ garden on Friday night and because it was such a warm night we were out there drinking G&Ts until gone midnight! I must start cutting down the nearer I get to Sept!

JamesZebra · 03/08/2020 14:10

@CookieMonster3001 CD13 was Friday for me, we had sex weds evening, Friday night (although DP was super drunk so I don't think that counts Grin ) sat morning, sat afternoon, sat evening and a few times on Sunday.......we were trying to make the most of having the house to ourselves. He's back on really annoying shift patterns now so no more fun for us! I think we gave it a pretty good bash though, I used preseed twice (I kept forgetting - plus its a real mood killer to have to halt everything to sort it out) and shoved a pillow under my bum after doing the deed.......DP thinks I have well and truly lost the plot. We shall see.....think I have about 10 days to wait. Work is v quiet so not a lot to distract me at the mo - might have to do some housework instead Grin

@Lollipop87 this weekend has confirmed I am too old for tequila haha! Sometimes its nice to let lose and just be a bit crazy. It was certainly a welcome change for me.

CookieMonster3001 · 03/08/2020 14:43

@JamesZebra eee how exciting! You will have to keep us up to date with your TWW!

@Lollipop87 yeah a family holiday isn't the most inviting to do BDing all the time, although when me and OH go on family holidays we tend to make an excuse to go back to the room when everyone else is at the bar drinking and using get a good hump in! We spend most of our holidays drunk so it doesn't take too long haha! Only one month for you! So exciting!!

Managed to go for my run! Feel good for it! And so far I haven't eaten any junk! Need to keep this up. AF is due on Wednesday and my temp has dropped so I imagine it will be arriving soon. No pre-period cramps though, which I usually get by now. Not that I am complaining!

This month has also been my best month in regards to temping. I can clearly see how the apps have been getting my ovulation date wrong and it keeps telling me my luteal phase varies too much, but I think they are just getting my dates completely wrong. Once my AF shows up, I will post a pic of a full cycle of temps so you guys can tell me what you think. This month I am also planning on testing OPKs from CD 9/10 as I ovulated early this month and don't want to miss it.

mackjm20 · 03/08/2020 15:03

@CookieMonster3001 exactly :) such a good way to look at it and exciting to get going :)

@JamesZebra so exciting for you please do keep us updated on TWW :)

JamesZebra · 03/08/2020 15:39

@CookieMonster3001 yes please, I would be really interested to see the temping charts.

@Lollipop87 are you staying in a hotel or a big house all together?

I am trying to not get my hopes up too much and if I am whooooohooooo! If not more time to lose weight and get drunk Grin

Nate1 · 03/08/2020 17:06

Hi :) I‘m on „holiday“ (visiting family) and tried to stay away from baby stuff and the Internet :D buuuuuut I read what you guys wrote and dropped in to say hello and how good for you all that you stay focused and try to be healthy and all! I have to say it’s pretty hard for me when visiting family..all the unhealthy food and not so many options if you don’t want to be rude..but you convinced me to do some sort of sports asap today! Thanks!

@JamesZebra I‘ve got my fingers crossed for you! My DH and I couldn’t resist on CD 15 (yesterday) which according to my app and the ovulation stripes was my ovulation date and well here I am in my first TWW although I don’t think that doing it once without protection even if your fertil will do the trick. Pretty ironic considering that I wanted to relax and not think about ttc :D:D

@Lollipop87 and @CookieMonster3001 Great that your partners are starting to talk about it more often :) As I wrote above mine recently just started to talke about it „for real“ and now he wants to get rid of the condoms :D:D so from my experience I would definitely say it’s a good start when they talk!

JamesZebra · 03/08/2020 21:35

@Nate1 I wasnt going to start yet, I wanted to lose weight and get some stuff sorted in life but I have zero self control so here we are. Need to try and distract myself Grin

Nate1 · 04/08/2020 08:01

@JamesZebra same here :D

Pebbleinthesand · 04/08/2020 09:33

I've not been on much for the last week or so because I'm on holiday in Scotland and the WiFi has been down until yesterday. I've not caught up on everything since I was last on but seems like some people are starting to TTC sooner Grin

DH and I have gone down the not trying but not preventing route and hoping by some miracle that I'll fall pregnant again without having to go down the tracking route. I don't know how you're all managing it, I think it would stress me out.

We've managed to DTD a couple of times on holiday but my periods haven't settled yet so I have no idea when I would even test if I get pregnant this month. I had a 2 day period a couple of days after having my coil out last month and then a 2 day period, which I assumed was the real deal but apparently wasn't, this week so I have no idea when it might settle down.

Annoying if I did get pregnant this month I think I'd have no idea how many weeks I might be until I got to a scan.

Pebbleinthesand · 04/08/2020 09:34

No idea why my post showed up with a gin bottle 😂. I'm sure I put a smiley face there.

queenatom · 04/08/2020 11:09

@Pebbleinthesand How funny, no gin bottle in the version I’ve seen?

It’s frustrating waiting for things to settle, isn’t it? Hopefully we will all get there soon. Fingers crossed that you are able to avoid the tracking route if you don’t want to - I would find it much more stressful not knowing but we’re all different, aren’t we?

Pushed through the AF cramps yesterday evening to go for a run and then rewarded myself with wine and a big plate of spaghetti. I wonder why the scale isn’t moving as fast as I’d like? 😂

Megan88 · 04/08/2020 11:58

Hi everyone, hope it's okay to join.

My hubby and I have just decided to start TTC at end of Aug/start of Sept. I'm 27, married for 2.5 years and this would be our first child.

We had thought we'd want to start trying early next year, but given nobody knows how long it will take us to conceive we've decided to move that forwards and just start trying in my next fertile window. On top of that, my period also came pretty late a few months ago and we thought we might have a surprise baby on the way. I did ultimately take a test once my period got to 10 days late (unusual for me) and it was negative, but I think we were actually both a little disappointed that it wasn't positive. Since then we've talked about it more and more and finally settled on starting to try.

My BMI is quite high - though in the past two weeks I've lost 8lbs and I'm working on losing more. I'm going to keep up the healthy eating and exercise.

I've also got some Seven Seas trying for a baby tablets arriving today - mostly for the Folic Acid and Vit D. Any feedback on those is appreciated.

I track my cycle using an app, and don't plan to do additional tracking or testing at the moment. We have a good, regular sex life and we'll just be a bit more intentional about it to begin with and see how we get on.

I'll next ovulate (at least I think I'm ovulating - I do get EWCM and my sex drive is way higher around the middle of my cycle - sorry if TMI haha!) towards the end of August. We have a couple of nights away booked for my husband's birthday then so it will be a nice time to start TTC!

Just looking to keep up with and hear from others who are starting out the same as me!

CookieMonster3001 · 04/08/2020 13:26

@Nate1 @Pebbleinthesand I hope you are both having a lovely holiday and fingers crossed for some baby joy.

@queenatom well done on the run! I am due AF today or tomorrow and really cannottttt be arsed with any exercise but going to try and force a walk later.

@Megan88 welcome! well done on the 8lb loss that's amazing! How exciting that your TTC journey starts this month! Keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Did anyone watch Panorama last night about pregnancy and giving birth during the Coronavirus pandemic. Very eye opening but definitely makes me feel better for not delaying it further because of it, as they really have no clue when it will end! I also started crying my eyeballs out looking at all the babies. AF hormones or broody? haha probably both!

mackjm20 · 04/08/2020 13:55

It’s so nice to hear that some people on here have moved from Preconception planning to ttc :) good luck everyone :)

I am beyond broody this week and have even considered trying to persuade dh to bring it forward to start trying after August af!

@Nate1 And @Pebbleinthesand hope you are having/have had a great holidays :)

@Megan88 welcome :) huge well done on the 8lb loss :) I’m on the weight loss wagon too trying to lose as much as poss in the next few weeks :)

@CookieMonster3001 I didn’t see it but I will defo give it a watch now as that has been on my mind loads. God help me if it makes me more broody though haha :)

queenatom · 04/08/2020 14:22

@CookieMonster3001 that sounds really interesting, will give that one a look!

Welcome, @Megan88! Lots of us on the healthy eating and weight loss train - 8lbs is a great loss.

@mackjm20 - I am feeling the same way and I think we might actually get started this month! We have not been getting on particularly well with the condoms and, when I made a comment about not having too much longer to go with them, DH suggested we just ditch them now since we're not far off anyway. We'll see if he has the same view once AF has finished and we're back on it, but I'm exciting to think about!

mackjm20 · 04/08/2020 14:29

@CookieMonster3001 Omgosh just watched this on my lunch break thanks so much for the recommendation. Although it’s scary how much things have changed how they describe it being here to stay has made me feel really with it being ‘the new normal’ you can’t wait forever! Also a lot of it settled my mind that the risks are no higher and my lord how adorable were the babies!

@queenatom eeek so exciting good luck :) it’s mad how real it is all starting to feel now! I know it could take a while but excited to just be ttc to Atleast have a chance :)

CookieMonster3001 · 04/08/2020 14:35

@mackjm20 defo! Although its not ideal, it definitely reassured me a bit more than before. (SPOILER ALERT) Although my soul almost left my body when that lady had a C section and the baby had no heart beat. Once he started crying I honestly started bawling my eyes out!!!

mackjm20 · 04/08/2020 14:57

@CookieMonster3001 Omgosh you look the same words right out of my mouth emotional mess! I literally sobbed! X

Pebbleinthesand · 04/08/2020 15:16

Not seen it but that sounds really interesting so will definitely be watching @CookieMonster3001. Covid keeps playing on my mind where ttc is concerned so hopefully it'll help to watch that.

Does anyone know if they'll give you a date number of weeks at private scans? I never had a private one with my little girl but if DH can't come to scans then we'd definitely book one this time.

Megan88 · 04/08/2020 15:19

@CookieMonster3001 Thank you so much! And I didn't see that programme but will add it to the list.

@mackjm20 Thank you! Good luck with your weight loss journey too. Good to know I'm not the only one working on that!

@queenatom Thank you so much Smile

It's so nice to have read back through about what changes others have been making to start TTC. Keeping fingers crossed for all of you who are moving to start trying soon.

olderthanyouthink · 04/08/2020 17:15

Ooh I'll try and watch that panorama tonight!

@Pebbleinthesand you can get private dating scans, yes. I would be getting private scans if DP couldn't come to the NHS ones and I'd have them just before the NHS scans. We had a 3/4D one for DD at about 30 weeks

I've got a phone appointment with my GP tomorrow about my low weight and lack of periods, not sure what's going to come out of it

JamesZebra · 04/08/2020 21:00

Private scans sound like a really good option at the mo with the NHS not letting dads in to some of them.

Just booked a holiday to Devon which I am really looking forward to. It can't come soon enough Grin off at the end of next week. Got lots of nice day trips planned and chance to relax.

@olderthanyouthink good luck with your call to the GP tomorrow, hopefully they have some good advice.

Have recorded panorama so will watch it when DP goes out to work.

Lollipop87 · 04/08/2020 23:43

@Megan88 hi and welcome! I’m also just using an app to track for now, hoping to start TTC in September. Your weekend away sounds lovely, and great that it falls within your fertile window.

@CookieMonster3001 I’m also due AF in the next couple of days, I find it really disconcerting not knowing exactly when - on the pill I would always come on on a Tuesday between 9-11am it was like clockwork! But no idea now, thinking probably Thursday. I also could not be bothered to do any exercise today, oh well tomorrow is another day! I’ll try and watch panorama on catch up, sounds interesting.

@JamesZebra yay for your holiday, sounds fab! I think we’ve decided to go to Cornwall with my family for a week but later in September which will be just after my fertile window. If we have started TTC by then it might actually be nice to have something to take my mind off my first 2ww!
