Nexplanon implant removal in the time of COVID

Evening all,

Has anyone had any success getting a Nexplanon implant removed in the past few months? My GP is saying they won’t do it and they also won’t tell me when they might be able to restart.

Between wanting to get cracking on TTC (we’ve been holding off for a while as I needed some guidance from my consultant for another health issue) and the side effects I’m now having from it (seven weeks of constant spotting and counting!) I want this thing out ASAP. Are any GPs doing this yet? Is it the sort of thing that you can get done privately?

I'm a nurse in a GP surgery and we are only removing ones causing bad side effects. Sexual health clinic may so enquire there. Xx

Thanks - I’ll give them a go but not hopeful based on what their website says. Just so frustrating that I can’t even get a steer on when they might restart - worried that there’ll be a second wave and I’ll be stuck with it for ages. I’m not getting any younger!

I get it in some ways - we were about to get my husbands sperm sample tested when they stopped testing. I'm finding it frustrating too :(

Mine has expired and they won't take it out!

Yes - mine is also expired. Which would be fine from my perspective, but apparently they're now fine for up to 5 years, not just 3...

Just got a notification about this thread - I managed to get mine removed last Wednesday! I tried the sexual health clinic as recommended and they told me to try my GP one more time and if they still refused to ask for a referral and they would do it. I think the trick is getting past reception to talk to one of the actual doctors - once I spoke to the GP she was very sympathetic and, after quickly checking with the partners at the practice, she got me booked in at the surgery.

No issues getting it out and now just waiting for my cycle to start so we can start officially TTC!
