When to start low dose aspirin?

I have had two consecutive miscarriages this year so far, and already have one DD who we conceived with no problems. GP and gynae aren't really sure why I've had two miscarriages back to back - could be really bad luck or possibly linked to my rheumatoid arthritis and the autoimmune condition is the cause of the miscarriages. I'm awaiting referrals to rheumatology but I don't feel this will lead anywhere productive and I need to have three losses to get a referral to the RMC... so I feel at a bit of dead end.

I aware some women who have suffered recurrent miscarriage have taken low dose aspirin and gone on to have successful pregnancies. I asked my GP about this today and she was pretty clueless about it and said if I want to buy some over the counter it wouldn't do any harm. She wouldn't really give any more guidance. I also asked the same question to my gynaecologist and she said it might be worth doing but only from around 8 weeks. I never got to 8 weeks with either miscarriage so I feel that is too late to make any difference.

So, ladies who have taken aspirin in pregnancy - what made you decide to take it and crucially when did you start? I am currently about 3 or 4 dpo so I hope to decide what to do soon.

Thanks so much in advance.

Hi @diorissimo1985,

I'm gonna join this one. I had my last mc at 7 weeks on the 12th of June and That's my 3rd this year which is mad because I already have a 7YO and 5YO 🙄 I've also been looking into taking baby aspirin to be honest because it may help but it may not but won't do any harm. I don't understand the 8 week but because apparently it helps implantation. Ladies usually take it after they ovulate so I'm debating going and getting some tomorrow. Not that I'm sure when I will ovulate as I'm sure my body will be unpredictable after MC.

Sorry I have no experience.. x

@MummyT13 I’m so sorry for your losses - it is so painful isn’t it. Do you have any inkling as to why they haven’t worked out or is it a mystery? Are you tracking ov at all? X

@Diorissimo1985 it's definitely more painful than anyone could imagine without being through it. Especially when everything was normal with my first 2 DC. They can't see anything wrong with me at all, I've had ultrasounds etc and everything seems fine. They seem to keep telling me it's chromosomal issues but I don't know. I'm hoping to be referred to the multiple miscarriage unit and see if they can see what's happening between us. I get impatient though although this is month 18 TTC for me 🙄 so I've waited long enough and had a lot of heart break along the way. How about you? Any clues? X

Oh and I was tracking ovulation until I last found out I was pregnant. Just using OPK though not BBT. But this month I feel like it's not going to happen because my body just doesn't feel like it's even thinking about recovering yet. Bleeding stopped last Friday and I should technically ovulate at the end of this week but I have every AF symptom.. bloating, migraines, period pains etc! Feel like AF could quite easily come again tomorrow 🤨 x

So I'm under fetal medicine and a RMC now. I've had 5 miscarriages and a stillbirth, and I'm under strict instructions to take 150mg of aspirin daily constantly, as I fall pregnant at the drop of a hat, but unfortunately can't stay pregnant. With my next pregnancy I'll also be starting steroids and progesterone, but they're only available on prescription obviously. My consultant told me about the aspirin that it'll either do good or do nothing, ie there's no harm in it. Good luck with future pregnancies!
